Roadrunners chasing dubious historical record

At 0-11, the Camrose Roadrunners are playing out the string, heads held high in a season that this author has noted, as the most difficult, most competitive from top to almost bottom, that he has ever seen.

Since 1999, standings have been kept and on file, and never has a team lost every game in a season for the past 15 years. The Roadrunners now have three games left to avoid joining the 2007 Tofield Lakers who tied one game that year enroute to an 0-14-1 record.

As noted earlier, this Roadrunners team is far from the worst team in PBL history. They would defeat the 2008 Armena Royals, coined by Royal manager as the worst PBL team in history. They would likely defeat some of the Tofield Laker and Armena Royal teams through the mid to late 2000s.

But the league is tough this year. And with two games left against Ryley and one against Beaumont, one has to wonder if there’s something left in the tank with this Roadrunner squad. A team that annually trips up teams battling for playoff spots while they play with no pressure. But is the pressure of going winless even more?

Time will tell.
