Solberg the hero in game one, game two tonight

With the Holden Blue Jays holding a 3-1 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh, Dylan Solberg crushed a three-run walk-off blast to secure game one for the red-hot Ryley Rebels, who won their eight game in nine tries, and third straight postseason tilt.

Both teams agreed to tweak the schedule of traditional Tuesday-Thursday PBL playoff dates so they will go back at it tonight in Holden for game two, with game three, if necessary, back in Ryley Thursday.

Will History Repeat Itself? We hope not for the trophy sake…

Tuesday’s win, given the team’s penchant for partying, and Ryley’s history with the second PBL trophy, should have league president and arch-rival Bardo Athletic Craig Neufeld, taking pictures and documenting sizing of the trophy, after the 1980s Rebels saw the tin swiped in the Ryley bar after winning in the late-1980s over Holden.

The Rebels now sit on the precipice of their first PBL title since rejoining the league in 2009, and first title for the Rebels since 2000 – who were led by Ray “The Legend” Lehman and a band of eight merry men to improbable late-season surge and upset over the Wes Harrison-led Camrose Roadrunners. The Brewers, who played part-time out of Ryley won in 2001 over the Bardo A’s.
