Crazy night in the PBL just the beginning

Tuesday night marked the craziest night ever seen in this author’s 15-plus-year relationship with the league. Three walk-offs, two extra inning affairs and another that went down to the wire when most thought it out of reach.

This is only the beginning.

With three teams tied with 16 points, while four other teams sit separated by just three points for the fourth and final playoff spot, the best might be yet to come. The PBL Playoff Tracker (Coming Soon) could be similar to last year when you needed a math degree to interpret it.

So is the annual dance of late for this storied league that continues to surprise us each and every year. It’s made a bit addicted to watching the story-lines even when my paths have taken me out-of-province and why I enjoy following it, still knowing many of the players, and enjoying the youngsters maybe carve out a future for this rural league that once snuck by with just five teams during the boom.

Tuesday night proved the playoffs and standings mattered very little with such crazy baseball being played. Three comebacks of epic proportions and another that came up just short proves no lead is safe. The combination of solid hitters and just good enough, but not dominating, pitching and defence make for dramatics not usually seen in the sport of baseball.

With four more games on tap, including a rematch of last year’s semifinals between Leduc-Ryley and Holden-Armena coupled with the 2014 Bardo Day final and an-all Camrose County matchup in Camrose, no game is missing story lines.

And that’s the PBL way.
