Game Updates Coming To PBL Site

Starting today, game updates and information will be posted on the Powerline Baseball League site regularly throughout the week as action takes place. Fans can also check out the weekly editions of the Camrose Canadian, Tofield Mercury and Vegreville News Advertiser for coverage as well.
Here is a look at what has happened across the first 21 games so far this season.
Saturday May 12
Leduc Millteers – 2
Armena Royals – 9
Ian Sherbaniuk would dominate the Milleteers as the he would go the distance for a complete game win on Opening Day for the Royals. Offensivley the Royals would have everyone contributing throughout the lineup.
Camrose Axemen – 10
Tofield Braves – 11
Braves outfielder Craig Neufeld would send the home town fans home happy with a walk off two out single after the Axemen committed six errors throughout the game. Braves pitcher Corey Epp and Axemen second baseman Zach Willms would each hit three run home runs and Ray Lehman would make a successful return to a PBL mound picking up a relief win. Matt Andreassen would take the loss for the Axemen.

Sherwood Park Athletics – 4
Rosalind Athletics – 11
Rosalind outfielder Nic Ronsko would help the Athletics blow out Sherwood Park with a solo home run on Opening Day. Rosalind’s Mark Gjesdal would earn the win while Joey Poapst would take the loss. Brayden Bensen would finish 2-4 with a RBI, Sheldon Pederson go 1-2 with 2 walks, a double and 3 stolen bases.
Holden Blue Jays – 0
Edmonton Expos – 7
Expos opening day starting pitcher Gary LeBlanc would hold the Blue Jays to only two hits as the Expos easily defeated the Holden Blue Jays for their first regular season win in franchise history. Grayson Suprovich would take the loss for the Jays while Craig Weder would collect both hits for Holden going 2 for 4.

Tuesday May 15
Camrose Roadrunners – 0
Holden Blue Jays – 4
Jays right hander Stephen Hrabec would go the distance striking out seven and allowing only three hits for the win in Holden’s home opener. The win is the third in a row for the Jays over the Roadrunners dating back to last season and fourth win in the last five games between the two teams. The win evens the Jays record at 1-1 while the Roadrunners start the season 0-1. Blue Jays Craig Weder continues his hot start for the team going 2/3 with a double and two RBI while Zack Lang contributed with a double and a RBI in the win.
Armena Royals – 13
Tofield Braves – 11
Another high scoring affair for the Braves, however this time they come out with a loss to the now 2-0 Armena Royals. Tofield would have the tying run in scoring position with one out in the seventh but would fall short of their second walk off win in as many games. With Tofield up by six in the sixth inning, Armena would score seven runs to make it 12-11 and adding an insurance run in the seventh for a 13-11 win . Royals pitcher Doug Morris would earn the save by shutting down Tofield in the bottom of the seventh while Chad Nelson would take the loss for the Braves.
Edmonton Expos – 3
Leduc Milleteers – 2
The Expos are now 2-0 and the Milleteers are 0-2 after Tuesday night’s game in Leduc.
No information was reported by either team.
Wednesday May 16
Rosalind Athletics – 8
Camrose Axemen – 9
After being walked off on Saturday by the Tofield Braves (11-10) it was the Axemen’s turn to bring home a win in exciting fashion on Wednesday night. The Rosalind Athletics would come all the way back from a 6-1 deficit to take a one run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. There the Axemen would score twice on a Kyler Kupka two out single with the bases loaded to centre field. Brady Ryan would pick up his first career Axemen win on the mound with Athletics veteran Dan Enright taking the loss. Outfielder Wes Wilson would go 3-4 with a double and two runs scored while fellow Axemen Wes Harrison and Zach Bailey would each drive in two runs. Rosalind third baseman Brayden Bensen would score three runs, Brandon Heck and Kevin McDonald would each collect two RBIs.

Thursday May 17
Edmonton Expos – 5
Camrose Roadrunners – 3
The Edmonton Expos would remain a perfect this season and move to 3-0 with an extra inning win against the Camrose Roadrunners. The teams would battle into the 9th inning darkness in what was described as a pitching duel between the two teams. These two teams will complete their early season home and home with a holiday Monday game at Empire Park in Edmonton.
Tofield Braves – 2
Armena Royals – 12
Lyndon Galvin would pitch the Royals to their third win of the season as they would defeat the Braves for the second time this week. It would take the Royals only five innings to put up 12 runs against pitcher Corey Epp and the Braves, evoking the PBL’s Mercy Rule with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Royals sweep the season series against the Braves, outscoring them 25-13.
Leduc Milleteers – 12
Sherwood Park Athletics – 2
Veteran pitcher Steven Pahl would secure the Milleteers first win of the season on Thursday night. The Milleteers would capitalize on costly errors by the Athletics in the early innings to build to a 12-2 lead. Sherwood Park would be unable to build any momentum on offence in the bottom of the fifth inning meaning fans would see the PBL’s Mercy Rule come in to effect for the second time this night.

Holden Blue Jays – PPD
Rosalind Athletics – PPD
The anticipated 2017 PBL Championship Series re-match will have to wait as Mother Nature put a damper on things with some wet weather. No makeup date has been set yet, the next scheduled game between the two teams is June 19 when Rosalind visits Holden.
Monday May 21
Camrose Roadrunners – 1
Edmonton Expos – 11
In a rare holiday Monday PBL game, the Edmonton Expos would move to 4-0 on the season by defeating the Camrose Roadrunners 11-1 in a six inning game. The game saw its share of errors however the Expos were able to prevent the Roadrunners from stringing together any momentum. Marcel Lesoway would get the start and take the loss for the Roadrunners while Expos right hander Anthony Qaqish would pitch a complete game for the win. The lone run for the Roadrunners came in the top of the first inning when the Expos outfielder would drop a running catch off the bat of Brett Keohane.

Tuesday May 22
Sherwood Park Athletics – 6
Tofield Braves – 9
After a pair of defeats last week to the Armena Royals, the Braves found themselves with a 1-2 record heading into the game versus the 0-2 Sherwood Park Athletics. The Braves would get a complete game from Sean Melanson for his first win of the season. Tofield’s offence would be led by Rob Berrecloth who was 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI and Craig Koughan who finished the day 2 for 3 with three runs batted in.
Armena Royals – 6
Holden Blue Jays – 2
Liam Gregor would hit a three run home run to pace the Royals to the win as they remain perfect at 4-0 on the season. Blue Jays pitcher Kyle Muzechka would get charged with the loss after his four innings of work. Blue Jays infielder Craig Weder continues his hot start to the season picking up another two hits including a double to finish the day 2 for 4 with a run batted in. Holden first baseman Zak Lang would also hit a double and finish the game 2 for 4. The win by Armena now sets up a battle of two 4-0 teams as the Royals will host the Edmonton Expos on Thursday May 24.

Leduc Milleteers – 5
The defending PBL Champion Rosalind Athletics would need extra innings to defeat the Leduc Milleteers at Fred Johns Park on Tuesday night. It was the first meeting between the two teams since Rosalind swept the Milleteers in their 2017 PBL Semi-Final series. The Athletics are now on a five game winning streak against Leduc dating back to last season.
Wednesday May 23
Tofield Braves – 10
Camrose Axemen – 11
Three Axemen errors in the top of the first would lead to seven unearned runs and a 7-0 Braves lead. Tofield would take on three more in the top of the second to make it 10-0 after two. The Axemen would chip away for the rest of the game capitalizing on five Braves errors and misplays to set up a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh with a 10-10 game. A throwing error back to pitcher after three pitches would allow Axemen Wes Wilson to jog home with the winning run. Braves rookie Dustin Huebert would be tagged with the loss while Matt Andreassen picks up his first win of the season. Gord Nadeau was 3-4 with a double for the Axemen.

Thursday May 24
Camrose Axemen – PPD
Camrose Roadrunners – PPD
The first Camrose vs Camrose Powerline Baseball League game since 2004 will have to wait. Mother Nature arrived with a storm causing soft field conditions with more rain threatening when the game was officially postponed. The storm would also wash out the entire Camrose Minor Ball Schedule as well.
Holden Blue Jays – PPD
Sherwood Park Athletics – PPD
Due to rainy conditions tonight’s game between the Blue Jays and Athletics was postponed to a later date.
Mother Nature dampened PBL action on Thursday night including in Sherwood Park
Leduc Milleteers – 4
Rosalind Athletics – 0
The only game score reported tonight saw the Milleteers take the back end of a home and home with the Athletics by a score of 4-0. Information about the game was not available however the Athletics were only able to muster two hits against Milleteers pitching. The win by Leduc gives the Milleteers the season series with a 1-1 record but outscoring Rosalind 9-8 over those two games. This is the second time this season that the Athletics have found themselves with a .500 record, something that the team hadn’t seen since June 30 2015. A 7-1 win over the Milleteers on that day would bring them to a 6-6-1 record on the season.
