Fort Sask Minor Baseball Cancellation
On April 3rd, Fort Saskatchewan Minor Baseball announced that they would be cancelling their house league seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is the third minor baseball association, along with the Sherwood Park Minor Baseball Association and Red Deer Minor Baseball Association, in the area that has had their seasons cancelled due to the pandemic.

The FSMB announcement could be seen on Twitter and you can read the full announcement below:

Hello Baseball Families

With the global Covid-19 Pandemic in full swing, Fort Saskatchewan Minor Baseball has decided to cancel T-Ball, Rookie, and House League Seasons for the upcoming spring season. There have been numerous recommendations from Baseball Alberta, Baseball Canada and the City of Fort Saskatchewan that have made it clear that this is the best course of action for us to take.

Any players register in T-Ball, Rookie, and House League programs for 2020 will receive a full refund. Due to the high volume of refunds across all minor sports, we anticipate refund could take up to 2 weeks. FSMB is looking into the possibility of creating a Summer/Fall program for T-Ball, Rookie, and House League but we do not have any further information at this time.

As of right now, any player registered for AA Tryouts in RAMP will not be refunded, as there is still a possibility for a condensed AA season. This is at the discretion of Baseball Alberta - FSMB will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when possible.

Thank you!

Here is hoping that the Covid-19 pandemic ends soon and baseball is back on the schedule across the area.

In other Fort Saskatchewan baseball news, it appears that the city will feature a new senior AA North Central Alberta Baseball League team, the Fort Saskatchewan Reds. The team is rumoured to be a team consisting of graduated players from the Community Park Reds team who participated in the Baseball Alberta Junior AAA league in 2019. The addition of the Reds will make the NCABL a seven team league after the Edmonton Blackhawks and Stony Plain Mets both announced they would not be participating in the 2020 season. The league will have teams in Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove and Westlock in 2020.
