Opening day thumping

Posted July 7, 2020

At least we're playing ball, that's what we tell ourselves anyways. It really was great to be at the ballpark again, and the new look Giants were ready and raring to go.  We've added a ton of rookies to fill some holes left by aging vets, and in an attempt to get better.  They didn't dissappoint.  Unfortunately for us, pitchers just weren't ready to go more than a couple innings (except Sully who threw three, and that was too many), so we plowed our way through 8 arms in the two opening games aginst the Dukes, with differing levels of success.

Both games were pretty similar, very close, until we gave up one big and painful inning.  The Dukes are just too good of a group of hitters to get through without some solid and prepared arms...hopefully we get there soon!  the result, 11-3 and 10-8 losses on opening day.

Too many positives, starting with Rookies the Seitz boys and Ayden Makarus having bigtime debuts at the dish, with Kye going Yatz in game 2.  Other newcomers Cole McPhee, Mitch Dennis, Roch Laferriere and Kade Kahlert all contriubting on day 1. Vets Dubbsy, Riki and Bader were also huge contributors on the day, as usual.

The Highlights:

-Kye's SHOT

-Ayden with 3 extra base knocks

-Kale with 4 hits/4 RBI

-Mitchell and Sully with solid starts on the bump.

-Latos was in hot persuit of a golden sombrero, striking out three times on 10 pitches at the dish...but was dialed on the bump.

-The new caps looked super slick

Everyone got some reps, and we move forward!  Baseball!
