Notes:
Brewers Tumble In Season Opener The last time the Glencoe Brewers and Arlington A's tangled in a non-league clash, the Brewers walked away from the park wondering how they gave up 4 touchdowns in a game. Yes, touchdowns! The A's struggled to a 25-4 victory two years ago in Glencoe, and were a couple of two-point conversions of putting up a 30 spot. Friday nights game proved to be a little more competetive, as Arlington put up a 6 spot in the bottom of the second, and held on in the end for a 7-4 victory. The Brewers struck in the top of the first after Scott W lead off the game with a walk, and was moved station to station all the way home as the Brewers plated six batters in the first inning. After giving up 6 runs in the bottom of the second (not all earned), Tony Paggen settled in for two more innings of work, and gave the Brewers a decent start in 48 degree weather. Keith Trudell gave the Brewers 3 innings of relief and looked very sharp, as did Scott Wawrzyniak as he closed out the 8th inning. The Brewers put together a small rally in the 9th, and plated two runs and left two on to end the game. A decent effort from the squad, but all areas of play will need to improve to get some W's in the Crow. Game Award - There will be many, but one really sticks out from Friday Night. "The Statue of Wib-erty Award" - I saw Wibs on second base, and when getting his very cautious two-step lead, he decided to make himself look like a statue with a frozen like pose during each pitch. At one point I was yelling for him to get off of second base to get a bigger lead. He was looking in my direction towards the first base coaches box, but it seemed as if he was looking right past me. Turns out he was...he was making sure someone was doing the book on his ipad. Hey guys, did you know Wibs has an ipad? |
