Baseball Alberta Adds Adult Baseball To Guidelines

On April 30, Baseball Alberta released a new update regarding changes to their guildelines. This update came on the heels of the provincial government adding restrictions to 'hot zones' around the province which are regions that are seeing a high active case rate.

You can read the full Baseball Alberta Update on their website. There is however now language specific to adult baseball (19+) and the guidelines and restrictions that apply to this demographic.

"Adult only groups (19 years old or older) are also permitted to train with restrictions."

This means that a Powerline Baseball League team would be able to participate in a practice setting while following current guidelines around group size and playing surface. The other obstacle would be for teams to follow and specific guidelines/restrictions that their local municiple government has placed on outdoor activties and playing surfaces as well.

The safety requirements listed in the Baseball Alberta Update are;

  • Maximum of 10 total individuals, including all coaches, trainers, and participants per group.
    • Indoor and outdoor playing surfaces (for example, arena, field, court or swimming pool) may be occupied by more than one youth group, as long as 3-metres of physical distancing can be maintained between groups of 10 and the groups do not intermingle. Coaches must remain with their group for the entire session.
  • For any group of youths doing sport, fitness, or recreation, up to 2 additional adults may attend to provide safety and security to that group.
    • These chaperoning adults must stay 3 metres away from the participants and not participate in the activity.
  • Physical distancing must be maintained between participants at all times:
    • 3 metres physical distance for indoor activities
    • 2 metres physical distance for outdoor activities
    • Coaches or trainers may enter physical distancing space for brief interactions with participants (for example, to correct form or technique)
  • Participants must be masked at all times, except during high intensity physical activity. Coaches and trainers must remain masked at all times. This applies to indoor and outdoor training sessions.

With active cases continuing to climb in Alberta as 2,473 new cases were reported for April 30, the likelihood of the PBL regular season beginning any eariler than mid-May is gone.
