GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Reese Rupe, Jr., Grand Oaks
Notable: Rupe earned most valuable player honors at the Katy I-10 Shootout over the weekend, leading the Grizzlies to the Ram Bracket championship. Grand Oaks improved to 5-1 overall this season and outscored its three opponents 10-0 at the tournament. Rupe scored two goals during the Grizzlies’ 4-0 victory against Kempner in the championship match. She leads the team with 16 points this season, collecting six goals and four assists over six games.
What coach Amy Simpson said: “Reese had an amazing weekend at the I-10 Shootout. Reese is no longer a secret. Teams know about her and make a point to put their best player on her, but that does not keep Reese from doing what Reese does — controlling the midfield and creating offense for us. Reese makes everyone around her better with her play and leadership. Of the 11 goals we scored, Reese scored or assisted in six. She is a force in the middle, and I am glad she is a Grizzly.”
