Opening Day

UPDATE (May 8, 2023):  Due to a waiver issue/ineligible player, the Wolfpack have forfieted the first two games of the season.  They are recorded as 1-0 wins for the Giants, and all stats accrued will remain.  They are reflected on our website as such.

Well, with much anticipation the new season is here and started with some kinda lame weather, a short bench, and a tough opponent.

We sent Sully to the bump in game 1, and he battled a bit for a couple innings, then settled down, minimizing damage and averting trouble a couple times and striking out 9.  All-in-all, he looked solid and threw a complete game in a 5-2 loss. We had trouble creating offence and the game was seldom in doubt for the pack.  Bader and new guy Kolbe led the offence and Grieder looked awesome taking hacks for his first time as a Giant.

Game 2 was Latos' turn to take the ball and he also battled some control issues in the beginning. He was followed in relief by Grieder, Jayde and Luis. The Pack guys were smoking the ball and took advantage of 11 walks and 3 HBP to deal us a 16-6 loss.  Bader stayed hot with 3 hits including a bases loaded triple, CD added 3 knocks, and Ganz had a clutch 2-run single also.

Kolbe was awarded the jacket in his debut with a couple key hits, a bunch of great ABs, solid decence and allowing the boys to scarf his spitz.  Honourable mention to Bader for his 5 hit day.

All things considered, it was a great day and plenty of positives heading into the season.  We're back at it on Tuesday evening.
