Supers Fall to 1-1

Posted May 17, 2023

The home opener on May 17 was a chilly, windy and miserable night. The Supers play was on par with the lousy weather as nothing seemed to go right in a 14-4 loss to the Yorkton Marlins.

Kholton Shewchuk started on the hill, and pitched very well. Unfortunately the defence and hitting were not up to snuff to help the cause. He scattered six hits and four strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings, but four costly errors increased his workload and gave the Marlins more opportunities. He gave up seven runs but only three were earned as he took the loss. Shae Peterson gutted out the rest of the game on the hill pitching against a fierce wind and some hot Marlins bats. The game was called after five innings due to darkness

The Supers got plenty of baserunners against Marlins pitcher Grady Hawkins, as he gave up six walks and hit four batters. Unfortunately the Supers could only muster one hit all night, and that was Grady Wolkowski's first home run in senior baseball. Brendon Landstad drew an rbi walk, and Jeff Stewart had a sac fly.

With the loss the Supers are 1-1 on the season. Next action will be Wednesday, May 24 as the Parkland Pirates visit Al Sapieha Field for a 6:15 PM first pitch
