A Win and a Loss

Posted June 24, 2023

The Canora Supers had a pair of games this past week on Tuesday June 20 in Langenburg and Wednesday the 21st in Canora vs the Parkland Pirates:

Supers 4 at Langenburg 1: Tuesday June 20

The Supers made it to Langenburg with ten players, four of which made their Supers debuts. Hunter Morin and Connor Kovach from Hudson Bay, and 18U callups Kimmuel Albaraccin and Xage Miraflor of Sturgis who play for Norquay. Also making a cameo was long time Super Carson Dennis who last appeared in a game in 2021.

With seemingly everybody unavailable on this night, the Supers were in good hands as Kody Rock once again tossed an impressive seven inning complete game allowing just an unearned run, three hits and fourteen strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the season.

The offence took a while to get going, but scored three in the top of the fourth inning courtesy of hits from Morin, Grady Wolkowski and Brendon Landstad. Morin and Landstad each had two singles for the game, while Albarracin, Wolkowski, and Kovach each had one hit.

Parkland Pirates 7 at Supers 2: Wednesday June 21

Once again another former Super made his return to the lineup, as catcher Matt Wilgosh returned after a five year hiatus from the team. Also Logan Wolkowski made his Supers season debut after an injury kept him out of the lineup.

The Supers led 2-1 after an inning, but could not generate anything after as emergency starting pitcher Benny Walchuk silenced the Supers bats to just four hits and four strikeouts. Wolkowski had two singles. Landstad and Kovach each had one single as nothing else was working on this night.

Kholton Shewchuk was the losing pitcher allowing three earned runs over four innings but had a season high seven strikeouts. Derek Palagian came in relief to finish off.

Unfortuntely the defence struggled by committing three errors and prolonging some innings. This will need improvement for the Supers to continue the championship streak.

With the split, the Supers are now 7-2 on the season. There will be back to back road games this coming week as they head to Melville on Monday June 26 to take on the Pitates at 7:30 PM. The following night will be in Langenburg for a 6:30 PM contest. Two wins will assure the Supers of first place in the regular season
