Pair of Wins
Posted July 2, 2023
The Supers had back to back games for the second week in a row. This week's game were on Monday June 26 in Melville against the Parkland Pirates, and Tuesday June 27 in Langenburg. Both were hard fought games that ended in one run victories.
Canora Supers 11 Parkland Pirates 10 on June 26
A win on Monday guaranteed the Supers at least 2nd place, and home field advantage in the first round. Kody Rock was the starting pitcher, and kept the Pirates bats in check. Unfortunately the defence had a few miscues throughout the game, but ultimately the team held on for an 11-10 win
Rock gave up ten runs on eight hits. Each run was unearned due to five errors and several passed balls. He had a whopping 18 strikeouts in an extremely gutsy effort to pick up the win.
Offensively the bats were clicking as Rock led the way with a single, and a big three run home run in the top of the sixth to break the tie. Ian Quewezance had a single, a two run double and three rbi as he continues to swing a hot bat. Also picking up multiple hits were Adam Korb and Carson Dennis each with a single and double, along with Greg Andreychuk's two singles and an rbi. Jeff Bahrey had a double and Grady Wolkowski had a single.
Special thanks to Adam Korb and Jeff Bahrey for suiting up on short notice as this was a rough week for player availability due to every reason under the sun.
Supers 5 Langenburg Legends 4 from Tuesday June 27
A win on this evening meant the Supers would clinch first overall in the regular season. Once again a few fielding miscues made for some tense moments, but ultimately Hunter Lamb's clutch two rbi single proved to be the winning hit in a 5-4 Supers victory.
Kholton Shewchuk went the full seven innings pitching, and did not disappoint. He gave up four unearned runs on eight hits and six strikeouts for the win.
The offence was simply average as just five hits were produced. Fortunately the team drew ten walks and ere able to cash in three of them for runs. Kody Rock, Brendon Landstad, Logan Wolkowski and Hunter Lamb each had a single, while Shewchuk had a double and two runs scored. Seven of the nine starters drew at least one walk, with Nate Wolos drawing three.
The win gave the Supers first place overall in the Southeast Senior Baseball League. A first round playoff matchup with Langenburg will take place starting the week of July 10. Stay tuned for dates as they are finalized.
