Friday night recap

Great night for ball across the Santa Clara Baseball League. Lets start with the charity game in Neepawa.

Garrett Rempel of the hometown Neepawa Cubs and Rylan Denbow of the visiting Plumas Pirates squared off in a pitchers duel last night. End result was a 2-1 victory for the Cubs. Rempel gave up 3 hits and struck out 5, Denbow gave up 4 hits and struck out 4. A game of great defense. All the runs scored early with Plumas pushing 1 across in the 2nd and Neepawa getting their 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Brad Wilson singled and doubled for the Cubs, and Nate Stephenson hit a crucial sac fly for Neepawa. The win takes them to 5-10 and locked into 5th place in the standings. Plumas drops to 9-4 and 1 game back of Carberry. If Plumas can win both games next week they can overtake Carberry for first place. With a Plumas loss Carberry would capture a long awaited pennant.

Speaking of Carberry, the good times just keep on rolling in Spud City. The Royals picked up a 10-7 win over the Portage Padres. After starting the season 0-3 - they have been remarkable going 11-1 since. They now sit in first with a 11-4  record and wait to see how Plumas does. Portage drops to 6-7 and finish off the season next week with 2 games vs Plumas.

In Austin , Brendon Reimer picked up the win on the mound, and stroked 2 singles for the A's. Drake Sheppard hit a 2 run shot in the 2nd inning to give the A's the lead. Nolan Marriot collected the 2 out save. Austin Taylor took the loss for Minnedosa only giving up 3 earned runs in 4.33 innings. Carter Hedley was 3-4 for Minnedosa including a 2 run single in the first to open the scoring. He later doubled to finish his good night at the plate. Minnedosa falls to 4-11 and ends up in 6th place. Austin ends off a terrific season at 8-7 and finish the year in 3rd place.

So the first round of the playoffs has been determined with Austin vs Minnedosa and Portage vs Neepawa, but the pennant still hangs in the balance.
