Mavs knock off Austin - Cubs walk off Portage

The #6 seed Minnedosa Mavericks are off to the semi finals after a first round upset over the #3 seed Austin A's. The Mavericks won 13-6 last night to sweep their best of 3 series 2-0. Austin stormed out of the gate with 5 runs in the first inning capped off by a 2 run homer from Jared Martens. Minnedosa starter Luke Gugin would settle in after that not letting up another run until the 7th inning. The Mavericks offense answered with 1 run in the 1st and 2nd innings to close the gap to 5-2. In the 4th is where the crowd went wild for local favourite John Hutton as he belted a Grand Slam to right center to put the Mavericks up 7-5. Alex Klassen took the loss for Austin throwing 4.1/3 innings. The Mavericks will now face the #1 seed Carberry Royals in a series likely to begin next Friday July 21 in Carberry.
In Neepawa, the #5 seed Cubs sent the fans into a frenzy with a 5-4 WALKOFF win over the #4 seed Portage Padres to grab a 1-0 series lead in the bet of 3 quarter final matchup. Thats their 4th walk off win this year. More details to come. These two teams meet again on Monday night in Portage for game 2
