2023 FMBA PLAYOFFS - ROUND 1

As the third seed finishing up the regular season, we matched up against familiar playoff foe, the Calgary Wolfpack in the first round of the FMBA playoffs.  It's always a great matchup, and as expected, it didn't disappoint!  Here's the rundownL

Game 1: A marquee and classic FMBA pitching matchup saw Sully take to the hill against perennial Wolfpack workhorse Curtis Smith.  Both guys had it working, but the boys got to Smitty for 8 hits with really timely ones from Dubbsy, Coop and Kenny to produce and drive in key runs.  Sully battled through some shoddy infield defence (with no infielders available today) tossing a 2-hit gem, striking out 6 and perhaps more importantly, picking-off two in the complete game effort. Steven Latos also chipped in with 2 knocks (perhaps his first ever against a lefty!).

Game 2: We sent Latos to the bump a day after he threw in relief up in Red Deer at Senior Nationals. Latty was also DIALED scattering 5 hits while striking out 14 and shutting the door after the boys took the lead.  The lead was provided thanks to an absolute rocket of a bases-loaded double to the left off the red-hot bat of Kyle Cooper. Kenny also chipped in 3 hits of his own, and as Sully did in game 1, Latos went in and slammed the door in the 7th to secure the win and send the Giants to round 2.

It was a hell of a day for ball and there were contributions up and down the lineup and some timely hitting.  Pumped fo the boys as we gear up for round two after the Labour Day weekend!
