| Game Notes: Back from the Road trip to Illinois and somewhat rejuvenated after going 2-1 over the weekend, Pius was looking forward to the Arrowhead game. A win would salvage 1 of the 3 games in the series for the season. Pius jumped out in front in the top of the 1st 1-0. Saglin reached on a BB, a groundout and perfect SACB by Jeremy Penn set things up for Justin Hunt, who’s Single chased Saglin home for the early lead. The lead didn’t last long as Arrowhead put up 3-Runs in the bottom of the 2nd, on 3 hits and 2 costly errors, to take a 3-1 lead. The Popes had a chance to get out of the Inning with only 1-Run against, but the defense struggled on a couple of routine ground balls. Pius came right back in the top of 3 to tie it at 3-3 on some pretty sloppy play on Arrowhead’s part. We’ll take it though. Unfortunately, Arrowhead bounced back with a single tally in the 4th to take a 4-3 lead, and didn’t look back after that. They tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th to seal the deal, and send the Popes packing. The bats were pretty quiet as Pius managed only 4-Hits in the contest, to Arrowhead’s 9. The Arrowhead defense also made several good plays in the game to end potential Pius threats, and Keiffer did a nice job in gaining his 2nd win of the year over Pius. Tim Pauly started for Pius and suffered the loss. In his Pauly’s 5 1/3 innings, only 1of the 6-Runs given up were Earned. Steve Lenski led Pius with 2-Singles, Penn and Hunt each contributed a single in the contest. Saglin reached 2X’s and scored 2-Runs, Penn added a run in addition to reaching twice. Doerr had another CS giving him 16 for the year. | ||||||||||
