TRY OUTS
Posted January 26, 2024
Girls Soccer Try-Outs will be held on February 14 and 15 (Wed/Thr) until 5:30pm with the uniform distribution day on Friday February 16 until 5:30pm. Our first game is scheduled for Feb 29 - which is why we have to go early this year. All practices (starting on Feb 19) will end at 5:30pm for the remainder of the season.
Players MUST complete a try-out in order be accepted to play for the team. "Walk ons" will not accepted, and the roster will be considered closed after the try-outs.
If there is a medical or personal reason a participant can not make those dates, coordinate with Coach Mark BEFORE try-outs to reschedule. These participants will be considered "Pending" until they are able to complete their try-out.
Try outs will consist of two sections, a physical fitness portion, and a skills assessment portion. Activities to be expected to perform during the physical fitness portion will include (but not be limited to) the mile run, a minute of push ups, a minute of situps, squats, and three 40 yard sprints. The skills assessment portion will include (but not be limited to) dribbling to include both feet / right foot only / left foot only, trapping, heading, shooting, first touch, defensive containment, and passing.
8th Graders: 8th graders considering trying out for JV squad has Coach Mark's full support to do so on Feb 19, 20, and 21. According to the Roanoke County Athletics policy, 8th graders who start practices with JV will NOT be eligible to return to the Middle School squad to play. If there is any concern by a player at all of making the JV squad, I will encourage that individual to attend the Middle School try-outs and uniform distribution day to ensure a proper fitted uniform. If a player is not accepted to the JV squad, they will be invited to play for Middle School squad where their leadership and experience will be most welcomed. In short, there will be no repurcussions for trying something that simply didn't work out. It happens, its okay, and we move forward.
Keep getting those miles in during the week, do your 15-20 push ups and 15-20 situps twice a day (morning and evening), keep working toward earning your spot on the team. We face some tough and formidable opponents. Every player needs to get prepared to find the inner beast deep within themself and let her loose.
