The 2022 BC Men's Provincial Championship at Mundy Park presented by Russell Brewing

For the first time in a decade the Coquitlam Angels will host the 2022 Men's BC provincial Championship. After a long two years this is the first championship since 2019 in Trail BC.  

The Angels would take game 1 of the tournament on a walk off single by Darren Honeysett beating the Nanaimo Coaliners 14-13 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Taylor Lawrence would have a career day with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. 

In game 2 Grant Malm led the team with 3 hits including a 2 run home run to beat Kelowna 6-5. Ryan Blight would complete the game with 4 innings pitched allowing one run, and striking out four to get the win. 

In the double elimination tournament Coquitlam would take on Nanaimo once again throwing Nanaimo kryptonite Sean Callegari who would throw a complete game shutout with 7 K’s only allowing 3 hits as Mitchell Middlemiss lead the team with 3 hits including a HR with ex Minnesota Twin Rene Tosoni getting an HR of his own.  

The Angels took on their arch nemesis Burnaby Bulldogs for the provincial championship in front of a home crowd and loud Russell Brewing beer garden. The game would be a close back and forth matchup between two tough pitchers Lachlan Fontaine and Braeden Alleman.  Rene Tosni would lead the team with 3 hits including a game tying home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game putting it into extra innings.  A flip of the coin left Burnaby the home team and they would go on to walk it off in the bottom of the 8th inning to take the 2022 provincial championship. 

The 2022 BC Men's Provincial Championship at Mundy Park presented by Russell Brewing goes down as one of the most gut wrenching losses in Coquitlam Angels history.
