Whips Rally Late to Outscore Hens
Posted June 26, 2024
Tuesday night saw one of the wilder games thus far take place in Winkler. The Morden Mud Hens got on the board early with a Manny Lantigua solo homerun in the top of the first. The Whips answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom half. After the Hens tied it up in the top of the second, the Whips added three runs in the home half of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. Morden closed the gap adding a run in the third, before taking an 8-5 lead scoring five runs in the fifth inning. The teams traded singles in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh, before Winkler scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off with a 10-9 win.
The game had a little of everything, with both teams hitting solo homeruns, two balks were called, twice Whips base runners were thrown out at home plate, and the winning run scored on a passed ball thrown as part of an intentional walk.
Kyle Nixon started for the Mud Hens throwing five innings and leaving with a no-decision. Tanner Bergman threw two innings of relief and was saddled with the loss.
The Mud Hens will be back at home on Friday night, as the Baldur Regals will come to town. First pitch is 7pm.
