Seems like only yesterday we were firing up the first game of the season, but here we are, 8 weeks later and the season is complete.
The Portage Padres came into the season with a fresh look, and man did that pay off. The 2023 squad finished in 4th place with a 7-7 record, this year they are our pennant winners with an impressive 10-4-1 record. Big turn around for the Padres. Daylan Laramee led the league with a .525 AVG, Riley Borody led the league with 27RBI, and pitching was led by Tyler Olson.
Neepawa Cubs must be happy with their season after finishing at 5th last year at 5-10, pulled off a most impressive 9-4-2 record to move up to 2nd spot. They have earned their first round bye. Lincoln Murray finished 3rd in the batting race a 472, Cody Pasowisty led the league in homers with 4, and Garrett Rempel was steady on the mound going 4-2 with 42Ks
The Plumas Pirates have been near the top of this league for many years now and this year was no different. Ending up in 3rd (only 1 point behind 1st and tied for 2nd) with a 10-5 record I think Plumas will be happy with their campaign. Rylan Denbow led the way on the mound going 4-2, he also batted 400 for the squad. Carter Schettler led his team with 25RBI only 2nd to Borody in the league), and Zac Yandeau batted 700 in an injured shorten season.
Minnedosa should be happy with their placement at 4th after having improved from 4-11 to 5-10. They started slow, but picked up 5 wins in the last 4 weeks of the season to finish strong. Andrew Richards finished 2nd in the batting race at .485 and teammate Devin Foord was a perfect 3-0 on the mound and posted a 393 batting average to solidify his chase for MVP.
Carberry certainly missed last years MVP in Zaine McConnell. Just didnt have as much pitching as they have been used to. They put up a 5-10 record to end up in 5th. Keean McLaren finished tied for 4th with a .457 average, while Josh McMillan was a force batting .455 and leading the league with 9 doubles.
Austin A's were close all year but just didnt quite have enough to match last years 3rd place record of 8-7. This year they ended up a 4-10-1 - Alex Klassen threw 33 innings of quality ball for Austin and belted 2 homers at the plate. Brendon Reimer is always good and batted .429 with 2 dingers as well.
Playoffs should be fun.
Can Austin find a way to upset Plumas? Minnedosa vs Carberry always creates something special when they play.
It all gets started tomorrow night.
