| Game Notes: Looking for a season sweep against Nicolet, this one was a battle to the end. It was looking like who ever-scored last would win this one. Coach O’Connell shook up the line-up and the Popes responded by pounding out 12-Hits and scoring 11-Runs in the Donnybrook. Unfortunately at the end of the day, Nicolet out-slugged Pius and came out on top 13-11. Pius jumped out in front 3-0 in the top of the 1st on 3-Hits, but Nicolet responded with 3 in their half of the inning to tie it at 3-3. Then things started to get a bit sloppy, as Nicolet light up Pius pitching for 6-Runs in the 3rd & 4th Innings to go ahead 9-4 after 4. Pius bounced back with 3-Runs in the top of the 5th to make it 9-7 Nicolet, only to have Nicolet add 3 more runs in their half of the 5th , and one more in the 6th, to make it 13-7 heading into the 7th. Pius rallied for 4-Runs in the top of 7, but Nicolet was able to stem the tide and crawl home with the 13-11 win. The loss gave Pius a 1-1 season split with the #2 ranked team in the state. Justin Hunt started on the mound and managed to get through 4 1/3 Innings before Jesse Stewart came on in relief. It was tough day as the dreaded BB played a big role in the outcome of this one. In the loss, Hunt gave up 9-Runs on 4-Hits, while striking out 1. Better days are ahead. Kevin Doerr (2-RBI, reached 4X’s) and Hunt (2-RBI, reached 4X’s) picked up 2-Hits a piece as all 10 Pius batters hit safely in the game. Jeremy Penn, Tim Pauly and Joel Seagraves each picked up a couple of RBI. Sean Saglin reached 4X’s and had 2-SB’s (unofficially 23 for the year). Dan Foy, Zack Feerick, Scott Schreck and Carlos Torres rounded out the Offense with a Single each. | ||||||||||
