Royals claim SSBL title!
Posted August 24, 2010
The Royals are the 2010 SSBL champs! In game one the Royals defeated the Stallions by a score of 4-3. Braden Bauml threw 5+ innings with Josh Johb and Russ Nielson closing things out for the boys! The Royals played a solid defensive game not making any errors and the bats were timely again with 8 hits including some clutch ones. The next game saw the Royals jump out to a 5-0 lead after one, but that was soon erased as the Stallions brought their bats and the Royals forgot their gloves making 3 errors. Colin Bauml and Paul Strueby threw the game for the Royals and and although the Royals once again had 8 hits, they disappeared after the first inning.
Games 3 and 4 went the following evening. Russ Nielson started the game for the Royals and pitched six innings giving way to Jesse Johb and Mathew Strueby. The Royals jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first inning but could only manage 4 more runs after that. They belted out 13 hits, but once again our defence let the team down making 4 errors. However, our pitchers were able to battle through it and the Royals came out on top 14-8. Game 4 would prove to be a different game. Everything the Royals did, they did well. Brett Yarskie threw a complete game 3 hitter and the defence was flawless not making an error. The Royals belted out 11 hits and won the game by a score of 12-1.
Congratulations to the Royals on their first SSBL title! It was a great year! Also congratulations to Russ Nielson for being named playoff MVP. Russ had two wins, a save, played flawless defence behind the plate and at second and had many timely hits and rbis! Well deserved Russ...congrats!
More award winners will be announced in the following days.
