The Lady Wildcats celebrate their 1st Win on their new home court!!!
The WJHS Lady Wildcats spent the first half of their season traveling to face opponents due to the floor being repaired in the Robert Reid Gymnasium. They had to host their first home match, which took place on August 30, at Waverly Central High School as they waited for the completion of their home court. On Tuesday, September 7, the Lady Wildcats were able to officially play “at home”. They hosted the Fairview Lady Falcons. In their previous meeting, Waverly took the victory 20-25, 25-20, 15-12.
In the first set of the match, the Lady Wildcats had a 9-8 lead when Maecayla Davis took her turn at serve for Waverly. The Lady Wildcats came up with a 7-point run that gave them a 16-8 lead. The Lady Falcons were never able to overcome the lead and Waverly went on to take the set 25-18.
After the win in the first set for Waverly, you could feel the anticipation in the gym as the Lady Wildcats were anxious to take a win on the new gym floor. The second set started with Waverly serving. After the first two turns at serve for both teams, Fairview had a 4-3 lead. The Lady Wildcats took their next turn at serve, with Malena Martin at the service line, and had a 4-point run. On their next turn at serve, the Lady Wildcats worked together, with Keyle Holland serving, and came up with a 6-point run. This gave Waverly a 13-6 lead. The Lady Wildcats held on to the lead for the remainder of the set taking the win 25-19.
