WJHS Lady Wildcats hosted the William James Lady Colonels on Monday, August 30, but the match was played at Waverly Central High School. The Lady Wildcats' home court was still being repaired from the flooding that took place on May 1. Althoough the Lady Wildcats won the match and were credited with a 'home' victory, it was not really a win at home.
The Lady Wildcats hosted the Hickman County Lady Bulldogs on Monday, September 13. The previous meeting between the two schools took all three sets to decide the winner. The Lady Wildcats were credited with the win. Scores from the sets were 25-13, 12-25, 15-9. The Lady Wildcats were looking to only go two sets in this match.
In the first set of the match, Hickman County served first but lost the rally. This gave the serve over to the Lady Wildcats. They were on the board first taking a quick 4-0 lead, with Emma Rushton serving, before losing a rally. The Lady Bulldogs were never able to get any closer than a 2-5 score and Waverly took the first set 25-12.
In the second set, it was the Lady Wildcats that served first and lost the first rally. But after Lofton Etheridge took her first turn at serve for Waverly and with good passing from her teammates, the Lady Wildcats led 4-2 and never looked back. They went on to take the second set 25-19 and slated their first "at home" victory.
