VARSITY HEAD COACH
Roger Wright
Roger Wright is a 1983 graduate of Lee High School. He helped lead the Generals baseball team into two state semi-final appearances in 1981 and 1983. His 30 career wins as a left handed pitcher at Lee makes him the school’s all-time wins’ leader. He played baseball at Calhoun Community College and the University of North Alabama.
Coach Wright began his coaching career at Lee High School, coaching football, basketball, and baseball before moving to Buckhorn in 1997 as the head baseball coach and a history teacher. His 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 baseball teams all competed in the state playoffs at the 5A level. The 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2012 teams competed at the state playoffs at the 6A level, with the 2012 team setting the BHS school record for wins at 36. At the end of 2014, Coach Wright retired from BHS and worked as the pitching coach at the University of Alabama Huntsville. Coach Wright came back to Buckhorn as the head baseball coach last year and led the Bucks to the 2017 state playoffs at the 7A level.
A 2016 inductee into the Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame, Coach Wright is married to Belinda and they have three sons. Mitchell (25) is an assistant baseball coach at Tennessee Technological University (and engaged to BHS alumni, Lacy Anderson), Kyle (22) is a pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization, and Trey (17) is a junior at BHS.
Jeff Wood
Coach Jeff Wood graduated from New Hope High School in Columbus, MS in 1995 where he played baseball and was a part of the team that became State Runner Up in 1995. After graduation he played baseball at East Mississippi Community College in 1996 and 1997. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1999. He began his coaching career at the University of North Alabama as a graduate assistant in 2001. From 2002-2006 he was an Assistant baseball and football coach at Warren Central in Vicksburg, MS., they made the state playoffs 5 years in a row. He accepted a position as Head Baseball Coach at Alcorn Central in Corinth, MS in 2007. Coach Wood had a very successful career while he was there, leading them to State Playoffs 2009-2013. Coach Wood came to Buckhorn High School in 2013 as Assistant Varsity Coach under Roger Wright and later Travis Tate before leaving in 2015 to take the Head Coaching position at Scottsboro High School for 1 year. During that year, they broke the school record for most wins in a season and also made it to the Second Round of Playoffs for the first time in the school’s history.
He has returned to Buckhorn as Assistant Varsity Coach and is looking forward to many successful years. Coach Wood is happily married to Ember Wood and they have 3 children. Dalton (16), Clara Tatum (15), and Macy (11).
ASSISTANT COACH
PATRICK CORNELL
Patrick Cornell is a 2009 graduate of Grissom High School where he played baseball. He graduated from Athens State University in December 2015 with a degree in Social Sciences. While he attended college he was an assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Grissom High School. For 5 years, he coached at all levels of the Grissom program from the freshman up to the varsity. This is his third year at Buckhorn and he is teaching 10th Grade Pre AP/AP US History.

RONNY MULLINS
Ronny Mullins Jr is a 2001 Buckhorn Graduate where he has had the great opportunity to play and coach under Coach Wright. He was a 3 year letterman in Baseball and Football, 1 year letterman in wrestling. After high school he studied business at Calhoun Community College. This is his 7th year coaching baseball. He spent one year at James Clemons as the freshman head coach. Ronny works at Huntsville Utilities where he is a journeyman electrician in the substation department. He is married to Sheree Tate Mullins they have 3 children. London 11, Warren 5 and Hattie 2.
