Langley Sr Blaze - 2014 Baseball Canada National Champions!

See story below from www.langleysrblaze.com:

The Sr Blaze are the 2014 Baseball Canada National Champions.  We would like to thank the City of St John's and the the St John's Amateur Baseball Association for putting on a such a great tournament.  We would also like to thank Shawn Schaefer and Scott Tulloch of the Coquitlam Angels and Leon Boyd and Sean Hotzak from the Burnaby Bulldogs for being a part of this National Championship victory.  Below are the tournament game highlights:

Game 1 vs Ontario 2 (7-3 W)
Shane Kraemer got the start and went 5.1 innings for the victory giving up only 2 earned runs.  Keenan Takatch came into the game to preserve the lead in the 6th inning while Dillon Reynolds got the save.  Scott Webster and Bobby Wagner each went 2/3.  Bobby Wagner and Joe Germaine each had HR's.

Game 2 vs Nova Scotia (10-2 W)
Shawn Schaefer got the ball in game 2 and pitched the complete game only giving up 6 hits.  Offensively, Sean Hotzak went 3/4 and Bob Foerster was 2/3. Graig Merritt, Sean Hotzak and Bob Foerster each had HR's.

Game 3 vs Manitoba (7-3 L)
Leon Boyd was tagged with loss going 4.1 innings while Steven Federau came on in relief to try to keep the Blaze in it.  The Manitoba pitcher was tough silencing the Blaze bats when it counted.  Bob Foerster was 2/3 at the plate.

Game 4 vs Newfoundland (6-3 W)
Ryan Eiswerth picked up the win going 6.1 innings with Dillon Reynolds picking up the save.  Brad Ferraro, Jesse Peters, Sean Hotzak and Mason Cratty each had 2 hits.  This was a great game to be a part of as Newfoundland legend Frank Humber pitched the CG for Newfoundland in his retirement game.  (his son was his catcher in the game)  Blaze HC Dave Diachuk and Frank Humber both played on the National Team.

Game 5 vs New Brunswick (Semi-Finals 1-0 W)
Jesse Peters on the mound was simply great.  He pitched 7.2 innings, striking out 10 while only giving up 2 hits.  Shawn Schaefer came on in the top of the 8th to hold the team from New Brunswick to 0 runs.  Brad Ferraro was 2/4 while Bob Foerster in the bottom of the 8th got the clutch hit, scoring Bobby Wagner from 2nd for the win and a berth in the finals.

Game 6 vs Ontario (Championship Finals 3-0 W)
Shane Kraemer had his best outing of the year picking up the win in a complete game effort.  He struck out 13 while only giving up 1 hit. Bob Foerster was 2/4 offensively.

It should be noted that Shane Kraemer, although not named to the tournament all-star team, was the top pitcher of the tournament (21 K's, 2 W). Bob Foerster (.455 avg) and  Sean Hotzak (.409 avg)  were named to the tournament all-star team.

From www.langleysrblaze.com:

Aug 5 - Sr Blaze are Back to Back to BC Senior Baseball Champions! Scott Webster named tournament MVP for the 2nd year in a row
Over the August long weekend the Sr Blaze represented the Lower Mainland in Victoria at the 2013 PWB BC Senior Baseball Championships where they were able to repeat as Champions.

Game 1 had the Sr Blaze vs Victoria 2.  Jesse Peters got the win as the Blaze defeated Victoria 2 5-0.  Scott Webster and Aaron Horanski each had home runs.

In game 2, the Sr Blaze faced the Prince George Grays.  The Blaze only needed 5 innings to complete the game as the Grays were mercy-ruled 19-9.  The Blaze jumped out to a 19-0 lead after 4 innings.  Bob Forester and Scott Webster each had home runs.

In the final round robin game, the Blaze defeated the Trail Orioles 8-1.  Brad Ferraro and Bob Foerster lead the Blaze with 2 hits each.

The first playoff game had the Blaze vs Kamloops in a rematch of the 2012 Provincial Championship.  Shawn Schaefer took to the mound and threw a 4 hitter as the Blaze won 4-0.  This win sent the Blaze to the Provincial final for the 2nd time in 2 years.  Graig Merritt hit the Blaze HR in this game.

In the Championship Final the Blaze faced the Kamloops Sun Devils again.  Kamloops would need to win 2 games vs the Blaze in order to take the title away.  In game 1, the Sun Devils would win 4-3 behind a gutsy effort from started Lee Ingram who pitched earlier in the tournament.

Game 2 had Jesse Peters on the mound again for the Blaze and Lee Ingram AGAIN for the Sun Devils.  (Ingram threw over 170 pitches between game 1 & 2)  This was a tight game from the get go.  Joe Germaine and Scott Webster each had 2 HR's in the game.  The game was tied in the 6th inning till Joe Germaine put the Blaze ahead with a solo HR while Scott Webster would add a 2 run HR later in the inning to put the Blaze up 8-5.  Shawn Schaefer would come on in the top of the 7th inning to earn the save for the Blaze.

The Blaze now prepare to represent BC at the 2013 Baseball Canada Championships from Aug 20-27 in Windsor Ontario and the 2014 Baseball Canada Championships in St John's Newfoundland in 2014!

Sun Devils pitcher Lee Ingram, rightfully so was named Tournament Pitcher MVP.

Aug 28.12 - PRINCE GEORGE WESTCANA ELECTRIC AXEMEN ARE THE 2012 BASEBALL CANADA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, TRAIL ORIOLES WIN THE SILVER MEDAL AT THE WESTERN CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

What a week... The Westcana Electric Axemen are the 2012 Baseball Canada National Champions and the Trail AM Ford Orioles have returned home from Winnipeg with the Silver Medal from the Western Canada Championships.

The Orioles, managed by Jim Maniago are a classy organization that represented BC at the recent Western Canadian Baseball Championship in Winnipeg Manitoba.  The event was hosted by the Elmood Giants.  Game 1 had the Orioles top Saskatchewan 3-2. Game 2 saw the Orioles beat Alberta 7-1 while game 3 had the Orioles win over Manitoba 3-2. The Orioles then ran into the strong host squad, The Elmood Giants loosing 3-1.  With the Orioles having a 3-1 record and the hosts having a 4-0, both team would play again for the Championship.  The Giants would take the championship with 3-0 win over the Orioles.  Thanks again to Jim and the Orioles for once again representing BC at these championships.

The Axemen meanwhile in Prince George, as hosts of the 2012 Baseball Canada National Championships would have a different fate ending in a championship win.  A big congratulations goes out to Jim Swanson, of the Axemen and his team of volunteers for once again hosting a top notch national tournament.

Game 1 would see the Axemen under the strong pitching of Jesse Peters top the 2011 National Champion Windsor Stars from Ontario 2-0.  Game 2 was a tough game vs Alberta as the the Alberta representatives would come out with the 3-2 win. This loss seemed to wake the Axemen hitters up as game 3 saw the Axemen mercy rule the Nova Scotia representative 10-0.  This win would put the Axemen directly into the semi-final on Sunday.  The semi-final game would be a rematch with Alberta.  With the Axemen trailing for 5 innings, Sean Hotzak would tie the game with a 2 run home run in the 6th inning at 2-2 before Brandon Hunter, in walk-off fashion would win the game with a 2 run home run in the bottom of 7th for the 4-2 win. Jesse Peters again threw a strong game going 6 2/3 innings.  Over 2 games, Peters only gave up 2 runs.

The championship game would see yet another pool rematch between the Axemen and the 2011 National Champion Windsor Stars from Ontario.  The Stars would start out strong taking a 1-0 lead on a first inning home run off starter Ryan Eiswerth.  Ryan would then settle down and the Prince George bats would come alive yet again.  In the bottom of the 1st inning the Axemen would take the lead 4-1, and not look back. While the Stars would make it close in the top of the 5th inning scoring 2 runs to make the score 4-3, Jesse Peters would hit a home run to start the bottom of the 5th to put the Axemen up 5-3 and the biggest hit of the tournament would be taken by local Prince George resident Brandon Hunter who hit a grand slam to put the Axemen up 9-3.  The final score was 9-5 for Prince George who became the first BC hosts to win a Sr National Championship at home.

Aug 7.12 - LANGLEY SR BLAZE ARE THE 2012 PWB BC SENIOR BASEBALL CHAMPIONS

From www.langleysrblaze.com:

The Blaze are the 2012 BC Senior Baseball Champions and will now represent BC at the 2013 Canadian National Baseball Championships in Windsor Ontario, August 2013.

The Blaze over the course of the weekend had a record of 5 wins with 1 loss.  Game 1 of pool play was an extra inning win over Kelowna 8-7.  Game 2 saw the Blaze dominate Trail 7-0.  The last game of pool play saw the Blaze lose 8-0 to Nanaimo.  With a 2-1 record, the Blaze headed to the playoff round as the #3 seed.

To start the playoff round, Nanaimo was seeded #1, Kamloops #2, Langley #3, Prince George #4 and Trail #5.  As all 5 teams that made the playoff round had identical 2-1 records and Nanaimo gave up the fewest runs, they had a 1st round bye.  Game 1 of the playoff round had Trail and Kamloops squaring off and Kamloops ran away with the game 16-1.  As Kamloops had the #2 seeding, they then received a 2nd round bye straight to the championship finals on Monday afternoon.

Game 2 of the playoff round had the Blaze vs the hosts, the Prince George Grays.  The Blaze came out on top with a 6-3 win.  With the win, the Blaze then went on to face the #1 seeded Nanaimo Coalminers Monday morning.  The Blaze came away with a 4-1 win with Jesse Peters throwing his 2nd game in 3 days picking up the win.  This setup the Championship game vs the Kamloops Sun Devils in the early afternoon.

Graig Merritt of the Blaze started the game off with a solo home run in the 1st inning that got the Blaze going. 3 different Blaze hitters (Graig Merritt, Bob Foerster and Tyler Willson all hit home runs for the Blaze in the Championship game)  Corey Parsons threw a complete game 2 hit gem (6-1 win) to get the Blaze their first Provincial Championship in only their 3rd year of existence!
