Red Sox pick-ups grab gold at the Nationals
Vaughn Mabone and Hiro Imata returned from Montreal with gold medals as Team BC went undeafeted to capture the Baseball Canada Bantam National Championships.
Both Hiro and Vaughn played significant roles in the tournament win. Vaughn threw a complete game as Team BC defeated Team Alberta 7-3 in pool play. He allowed only three hits while striking out a season high 13 Alberta hitters.
Hiro batted an amazing .461 in the leadoff spot (12-for-26) for BC, scoring 8 runs (at least a run in 6 of the 7 games), with 3 doubles and 6 RBI.
Congratulations boys, the team is proud of your accomplishments!
Sox picked up for Nationals and Westerns
Congratulations to Vaughn Mabone and Hiro Imata who will accompany Victoria to the Nationals as Team BC.
Ryan Pidhaichuk will also be heading out of the province to join Vancouver as Team BC at the Western Canadian Bantam Championships.
Tough luck and excellent pitching end Provincial quest for Red Sox
Going into the provincials as the number one seed, the Sox faced a steady diet of tough pitching and ultimately fell one run short of reaching the championship final.
The tournament opened with a 1-0 loss to Ridge Meadows, the first time all season the Sox had been shutout. Game two saw Rutland throw their best, and the Sox again were unable to generate anything offensively, dropping a 3-2 decision.
Faced with a must win game against the top team in the East Division, the Sox responded with a come from behind 5-3 victory over the Cloverdale Spurs.
The final pool play game had Richmond face the young North Island Blizzard. The Red Sox pounded out a 31-2 win, setting themselves up to advance to the semi-finals thanks to a thrilling bottom-of-the-7th Ridge Meadows comeback win over Rutland.
The semi-final saw Richmond and Victoria face off in a great game. Victoria's pitching depth gave them the edge early on as the Vipers built a 6-0 lead into the 6th inning. The Sox battled to close the gap to 6-5 in the 7th. With two on and two out Brodie Burdeny ripped what looked like a sure extra base hit that would give Richmond the lead, but the Victoria centerfielder made an outstanding catch to preserve the victory. Game over. A game of inches indeed.

Richmond Red Sox - Bantam AAA
Welcome to the website of the Richmond Red Sox. We play in BC Minor Baseball’s highly competitive Bantam AAA division. Like BC Premier League play at the Midget level (18u) this is a Tier I division.
This single season format provides the highest caliber of baseball for this age group (14u) both in the province, and across Canada. We represent the city of Richmond and Richmond City Baseball Association, and during our season we play teams from the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, the Interior, and the USA. Our schedule includes approximately 40 league games, 10-15 exhibition games, and 10-15 tournament games.
Playing at this level is both challenging and rewarding. Bantam AAA is for young ballplayers who wish to compete at the highest level. The Bantam AAA season concludes with a Provincial Championship, a Western Canadian Championship, and a Canadian National Championship for the top team in the province.
Established in the fall of 2004, the Richmond Red Sox program was designed specifically to prepare young ballplayers to move up to higher levels of play (BC Premier Baseball League, Junior PBL and Midget AAA) and to compete for roster spots in showcase events like the BC Summer Games, Pacific Northwest Championships and the Arizona Fall Classic.
Our program promotes a club-team atmosphere with an emphasis on skill development, physical fitness, team play, discipline, respect for opponents, officials and family, the game, and academics.
Red Sox players are encouraged to train year-round and our program offers a comprehensive off-season training component along with busy spring/summer and fall schedules. The caliber of play is very competitive, and success at this level requires a year-round commitment to skill development and physical training.
Richmond Red Sox players are required to train diligently and to push themselves; to attend all practices and games; to be supportive and positive teammates; to respect the game, opponents, coaches, and umpires at all times; to be a role model for younger ballplayers; to strive for academic excellence; and to conduct themselves on and off the field with class and respect.
