Spaceballs: The Championship Team

The final news report for the summer season is a happy one. Spaceballs not only repeated as champs, but they upgraded to an A side trophy! After a pretty routine round robin (with only one, relatively close loss when the bats went cold) and an easy quarter final victory (in which Donaskroob and Dark Helmet got their schwartzes tangled at high speed), the team then played two heart-stopping games in a row.

First up was an unlikely 6 run outburst in the bottom of the 5th after 4 innings of ice cold bats to tie the semi-final and send it to extras where Ginger Power drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th. That insane finish was only possible thanks to a genius defensive shake-up by scorekeeper extraordinaire Lauren that shut down Fowl Balls for the final three innings.

Then a low-scoring defensive battle in the final was tied in the bottom of the 5th when J-Rock played the perfect distraction noodle, getting caught in a rundown while the winning run crossed the plate.

Every player on the team contributed at least one run and one RBI to the cause. It was truly a team effort and everyone should be incredibly proud of their accomplishments this year. It was, as always, a pleasure being around this team all summer. Looking forward to many more championships.
