Maroons Advance in UIL State Playoffs
Posted March 25, 2017
Friday night the girls varsity soccer team traveled to Medina Valley for the 1st round of playoffs and battled a very good squad for the 2-0 win. Playing in front of about 500 Medina Valley fans in orange, the Maroons were not intimidated. 8 minutes into the game sophomore Gracie Jackson took the ball deep into MV territory and sent a rocket of a shot toward the goal, the keeper dove but hit the ball right to Hally Sasser's feet at the back post....Maroons up 1-0.
The teams battled back and forth but the Maroons were just too much for Medina Valley to handle. 20 minutes into the 2nd half Sophomore Sarah Jane Moe collected a defensive clear and took one touch before launching the ball over the keeper's head from 40 yards out.
The defense of Jasper Cohn, Emma Hagert, Riley Moore, Sarah Jane Moe, Maddie Heal and Ella Rosi limited Medina Valley to only 6 shots the entire game. Senior Emily Ennis made her return between the pipes and earned the shutout in goal.
The Maroons are back in action Friday, March 31st for the Area Round playoff game vs Richmond Foster. The kick off is 5:30 pm at Bryan HS. Please make plans to get to the game and cheer these ladies onto a Maroon victory!!!
