Cologne Can't Hold on Against Watertown

The boys let another slip away last night in the late night nail biter against Watertown. The early evening monsoon ended up delaying the game until an hour, but that didn't stop the Hollanders from putting up one run in the top of the first. After Casey Clemenson singled to left, Time Swanson singled up the middle, and a walk to Kyle Brazil, Tanner Luebke was able to plate Casey with a ground ball to short. The lead didn't last long as Watertown answered right back in their half of the first with one run. The Hollanders got back on top in the third as Kyle Twait reached on an error, Casey and Brazil both drew the walks, and Twait was able to score on a wild pitch. The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the sixth when Watertown scored one to tie the game, but Cologne once again took the lead in the top of the seventh. Kyle Twait lead off the inning with a walk. Casey then got his second hit of the evening moving Twait up to second. Brazil then brought Twait home on a hit to center. With a one run lead going into the ninth, the Hollanders just couldn't close the door. Brazil came in to close the game and managed to get two outs, but walks and hit batters left the bases loaded. Zack Nelson came in to try and finish the game, but the tying run scored with a hit batter. What was already a late ballgame went longer as extra innings were needed. Score remained three to three until Watertown was able to load the bases again off of walks and hit batters. With a slow dribbler back to the pitcher the ball hit Nelson's glove awkwardly and Watertown was able to get the final run on Cologne's only error of the evening.

It wasn't the ending that Cologne wanted, or needed, but the guys played eight innings of great baseball. Kyle Twait started on the hill for Hollanders and threw five and two thirds innings. Twait gave up two earned runs off seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. With a man on second and one out in the sixth, Tanner Luebke came in and was perfect for his two and one third innings picking up five strikeouts.

The schedule doesn't get any easier as the Hollanders will play the Black Sox on the upcoming Memorial Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm in Carver. See y'all at the ballpark and as always Ga Hollanders!
