Hollanders Over Hamburg

Last Friday night was originally scheduled to be the Hollanders' annual fireworks night, but due to less than perfect conditions the fireworks were postponed to a later date, which has still yet to be decided. Instead, Friday night was changed to dollar beer night as the Hamburg Hawks came to town for the CRVL showdown (hey, there's a rhyme). The night started a little hectic when it was thirty minutes until gametime and the Hollanders' starting pitcher, Christian Johnson, was still not at the ballpark. He eventually showed and gave the Hollanders a great start by giving up only three runs while striking out eleven in his debut start and six innings pitched. The Hollanders' pitching staff didn't let up after Christian's night was over. Alex Eichner threw the seventh and eighth innings. He shut out Hamburg giving up zero runs and striking out two. Tanner Luebke finished the night on the mound and struck out two in the final frame of the night.

Overall, the Hollanders' timing at the plate is still a little off, but the squad still managed to knock out nine hits including five doubles. By no surprise, Carter Clemensen lead the offensive charge with two doubles, one single, two runs scored, and one RBI. Cole Pengilly was right behind Carter with two doubles of his own, one run scored and drove in two RBIs with his first inning double to put Cologne on the board.  Tim Swanson also had a solid night at the plate with two hits (one single and one double), one run scored, and two RBIs. Casey Clemensen did what he always does, finds ways to get on base. Casey got plunked twice and scored two runs. Kyle Twait and Jon Kummer each got one hit during the game and Austin Pysick reached first twice on walks.

The Hollanders will host a pair of non-league games before the Memorial Day weekend. Up first will be the Montrose-Waverly Stingers Wednesday night followed by Baseball 365 friday night. Both of those games are scheduled to start at 7:30pm. The next league game will be Memorial Monday as the Hollanders will play at Carver. That game is schedule for 2:00pm. Even if y'all came to Cologne for the cheap beer, the Hollanders appreciate everyone that came and for their support.

Ga Hollanders!
