Lennox Stumbles in Season Opener to SFC
Posted December 8, 2017
The Orioles hosted last season’s 3rd place finisher in State Class “A”. With a young Lennox team squaring off against a team fresh off a state tournament from last year and starting three seniors and 2 juniors, the inexperience of Lennox would eventually become evident.
The three ball was a huge factor in this game as Sioux Falls Christian played it well. They defensed it well and making a lot of threes and eventually building an early 28-10 lead after the first. It was a hot and fast start for the Chargers who caught the Orioles a little off guard and out of sync.
The second quarter was a little better for Lennox as they scored 16 and only allowed 24. The point differential was 18 in the first and only 8 in the second.
The third quarter seen a change as Lennox came out of halftime with a true spark and extra intensity that was lacking in the first half. They out worked SFC and outscored them 15-13 to make it 65 to 41 after three quarters. The effort and attitude of the Orioles was defined by what we seen on the floor. Every loose ball had at least one Oriole diving for it and every fast break had players sprinting down to floor to stop it. The hard work was truly a test to their character as the game didn’t go the right way, but they never stopped pushing for a comeback.
An early run for Sioux Falls opened up a 74 to 42 lead. In the first 5 minutes, SFC would outscore Lennox 9 to 1. With it being a thirty point lead, the game clock would go non stop except for timeouts and injuries, making the fourth quarter go by quickly. Both teams brought their subs in with 3 minutes left and the defenses showed up. In the final three minutes, SFC scored 2 points and Lennox never scored leaving Lennox outscored 11 to 1 in the 4th quarter. The final score was 76 to 42.
After one game, SFC certainly passed the eye test looking like a top contender against our young Lennox squad. Returning three seniors and five juniors could certainly help in that cause.
Lennox will get six days before their next game as they host Madison in a boys/girls double header on Thursday the 14th. This will build for a great two games. The boys will have their hands full as they take on last year’s defending state runner ups in Madison.
