The Mauston Axemen laid an egg against Sparta-Miller. Brady Nelson was the starting pitcher and kept the game close through five innings of play. In the seventh inning everything that could go wrong, went wrong for the Axemen. The pitching staff (Brady Nelson, Adam Ryan, Mike Stoughtenger, and Dustin Manthe) gave up a total of 15 walks and hit 4 batters. However, Nelson had 8 strikeouts and Ryan had 2 strike outs for a total of 10 in seven innings. The Axemen’s defense could not help their pitchers either, committing 4 errors and numerous mental mistakes. The Axemen out hit Sparta-Miller in the game but defensive errors and walked batters proved to be too much to overcome. The Axemen lost 22-6 in seven innings.
