Socastee Braves get revenge for their only loss with a 5-3 win over Conway

Austin Schmitz pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just 2 earned runs while walking none and striking out 5.  He also went 2-2 at the plate.  Austin led the very strong pitching crew that allowed just 4 earned runs on the season.  Sam McKinney came on in the 7th with two outs and took care of the final batter via a strikeout.

Austin led the hitting with 2-2 (2B) along with his battery mate Ryan Beal who also went 2-2.  Trevor Bigham had a double (2rbi's) and Finn Melko, Buck Bacot (bunt, rbi) and Bubba Martin (bunt) , added hits.  Devin Melko added an rbi.

Sam Hall had a solo home run for Conway and Matt Rabon was the losing pitcher.

Socastee wind 10-9 in 8 innings at Carolina Forest

Socastee came from 3 runs behind and 2 outs to tie the score and went on to win in the 8th with 3 unearned runs.

Both teams were not up to their game in the field with a few errors and mental mitakes but the bats were booming.  Socastee had 9 hits and Carolina Forest had 10.

Carolina Forest was ahead by three in the 7th  with two outs when Finn Melko got a single, Buck Bacot got on with a fielders choice, Ben Brooks reached on an error, Bubba Martin lined a double to left center, scoring two runs and Devin Melko reached on an error which scored Bubba with the tying run.

In the eighth, with 2 outs, Carolina Forest got some life after an error and tow doubles scoring 2 runs before Sam Mckinney struck out the final batter.  Sam came up with the victory on a fine effort striking out 4 and allowing2 unearned runs in 2 innings.

Hits for Socastee included Finn Melko 2 for 5 (2B), Buck Bacot 2 for 5, Bubba Martin 2 for 4 (2B), and Trevor Bigham, Austin Schmitz and Sam McKinney added singles.

Socastee Braves win big against North Myrtle Beach

Socastee once again got solid pitching as they overwhelmed North Myrtle Beach.  Jason Farria started for the Braves and was perfect for 3 innings.  Jason struck out 5 facing just 9 batters allowing no hits.  The only base runner, who got on with a wild pitch after striking out was eliminated in an around the horn double play, Finn Melko, to Buck Bacot, to Trevor Bigham.  

Hitting honors went to Tyler Dillon 3-4 with 2 rbi.  A double and 3 runs scored.  Other getting hits were Buck Bacot, Bubba Martin (2B), Brando Connor, Devin Melko (3B) and Ryan Beal.  Trevor Bigham went 2 for 2 with 2 rbi's.  Austin Bridges pitched 2 solid innings in relief in a game shortened by the 10 run mercy rule.

Socastee Braves Junior Varsity loses first game of the season 3-2 to Conway

Soastee Braves Junior Varsity gave up 3 unearned runs to Conway in what was otherwise a pitchers duel.

The Braves used 3 pitchers in the game with Bubba Martin pitching the first 2 innings, giving up an unearned run on 1 hit, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Austin Schmitz pitched the next three innings allowing  just one hit and 1 base on balls.  Trevor Bigham pitched the final two innings and gave up two unearned runs on 3 base on balls (1 intentional)  and only 1 hit.  Conway scored the final two runs of the game on miscues.  

Devin Melko made a diving catch in center field in the fourth inning and made a perfect throw to double up the runner on first.  Socastee allowed just 3 hits in the game.

Socastee scored their first run in the 2nd inning on a base hit by Devin Melko, a bunt single by Bubba Martin, and a run scoring single by Beal.  Socastee's other run came in the 7th after 1 out, when Bubba Martin hit a long double to right center field and Ryan Beal hit a sharp single up the middle to score Bubba and put the Braves ahead 2-1.

Ryan Beal and Bubba Martin had two hits each with Sam Mckinney, Finn Melko, Trevor Bigham and Devin Melko adding singles.  Socastee missed a big chance to score in the first inning when they loaded the bases with three straight hits after one out, but a double play ended the inning.

Socastee wins Fourth game with win over St. James 7-1

Socastee once again shut down the hitters for St. James with Trevor Bigham allowing just 3 hits and 1 run over five innings while striking out 4 and giving up 3 runs.  Sam McKinney came on in the sixth and struck out 3 allowing just one hit.  

Hits were scarce for Socastee as Cole Cook pitched 4 solid innings before getting in trouble in the fifth.  Socastee scored their fist run in the 2nd without getting a hit.  Sam McKinney led off with a base on balls, then stole second, was bunted to third by Bubba Martin, and scored on a sac fly by Jason Farria, who also had a hit and 3 rbi's.  The game was broken open in the fifth with 3 walks, a hit by Jason Farria, and Devan Melko's base hit (and rbi).  Trevor Bigham added a solid double and Bubba added a single.



Socastee Wins Third Game 9-1 Against St. James

Austin Schmits pitched 4 solid innings against St. James for his 2nd win in as many games.  Austin allowed only 1 hit and struck out 8 while issuing just one walk.  Sam McKinney came on to pitch the fifth and sixth innings facing just 6 batters striking out 4.  Devan Melko finished the game in the 7th facing just three batters striking out 2.

Socastee got 4 runs in the 1st inning on just 1 hit by Jason Farria and bunts by Bubba Martin and a sac fly by Devan Melko.  Tyler Dillon and Bubba Martin added doubles in the 2nd and 3rd innings and Devan Melko added a single, Buck Bacot added a single and a stolen base, Taylor Ivy and Trevor Bigham also added singles.


JV Wins 2nd Game 3-1 against Carolina Forest

Finn Melko broke open a pitchers duel with a 2 run homer to left in the 5th inning.  Bubba Martin added two hits and Devin Melko and Buck Bacot one each,  Bacot also had an rbi.

Bubba Martin pitched 5 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits and had 5 strikeouts picking up the victory.  Buck Bacot came into the game in the sixth and pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit.  Devin Melko made a catch on a line drive to center and doubled off the runner on second to end the game.  Carolina Forest only run was unearned. 


JV Wins first game against Myrtle Beach, 5-0.

Austin Schmitz pitched 4 scoreless innings allowing 3 hits while striking out 6 for the victory.  Sam Mckinney pitched the fifth allowing no hits and Trevor Bigham finished up the last two innings allowing no hits with 1 strikeout.  

Socastee had a big third inning at the plate scoring 4 runs on 3 hits including a two base hit by Bubba Martin.  Trevor Bigham went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's and Finn Melko added a single.  Jason Farria, Bubba Martin and Sam McKinney added rbi's.
