Woodland’s miraculous comeback victory over Washougal on Tuesday gave the Beavers a tighter grip on third place in the Greater St. Helens 2A League baseball standings. But the 11-10 win, which saw Woodland score seven runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, had the Beavers thinking bigger.  “Now our kids want to battle for second place with Hockinson,” Woodland coach Owen Frasier said.

After a disappointing 10-0 loss in game one of a double header with Castle Rock, the Beavers battled back to take a 10-1 lead in game two before holding on to win 10-7.  With the split, the Beavers improved to  5-8 overall on the season, which passed their previous year’s win total with seven games still remaining on their schedule.

Woodland nearly completed a comeback without getting a single hit in the seventh inning but fell 4-2 to Hockinson in Greater St. Helens 2A League baseball Tuesday in Woodland.  The Beavers (3-5, 1-2 in league) trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the seventh when the Hawks nearly imploded.

Woodland bounced back from a 3-1 loss to beat Washougal 9-1 and split a Greater St. Helens 2A Leauge baseball doubleheader Monday in Washougal.  Hunter Huddleston took the loss in Game 1, giving up three runs in five innings while striking out seven. Cy Whitmire was 2 for 3 at the plate for the Beavers (3-4, 1-1 in league).

Posted Mar 25/12 - Beavers Lose Heartbreaker to Elma
The Beavers battled to the end, but ran out of opportunities in a 4-3 loss to Elma on Saturday.  The Beavs got a quality pitching outing as Trevor Huddleston started the game and went the opening three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, getting the tough luck loss.  Cy Whitmire and Colton Lucas combined to pitch the final three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, and striking out three.  The trio kept up the trend of Beaver pitchers throwing strikes, as they combined to walk just two hitters.

Posted Mar 23/12 - Beavers Drop Contest Against Montesano
Coming off a win in the opener against Ridgefield, the Beavers faced a tough challenge in Montesano tonight, dropping the road contest 5-3.  The Bulldogs, a certain top ten team in the state of Washington for 1A, were coming off of a 27-1 drubbing of league foe Onalaska on Wednesday.  They didn't have the same offensive outburst against the Beavers tonight as pitchers Hunter Huddleston and Troy Wasson combined to slow down Montesano, allowing just five runs (two earned) on nine hits for the game.  Most importantly, the duo walked none and hit just one batter.

Posted Mar 22/12 - Beavers Beat Ridgefield 13-9
The Beavers came out swinging in their opener against rival Ridgefield, collecting 11 hits on the day in route to a 13-9 non-league win.  Eight different Beavers reached base and seven different players scored as the Beavers used a four run third-inning to take a 7-5 lead and a six run fifth-inning to break the game open at 13-7.  Cy Whitmire, Bryce Mcquivey and Kelly Wenger each had multi-hit games and three RBIs to lead the Beavers offense, and were aided by a hit apiece from Tanner, Trevor, and Hunter Huddleston, with the latter reaching base all four plate appearances.

Posted Dec 25/11 - Beaver's 2012 Schedule Announced
The 2012 Beaver baseball schedule was announced this week by Woodland Athletic Director Paul Huddleston.  The non-league schedule will include the annual match-ups with 1A rivals La Center and Ridgefield, as well as other contests against Elma and Castle Rock.  Two opponents, Kalama and Montesano, who will both be ranked in the preseason top ten and are coming off state tournament runs last season, also make an appearance on the schedule.  The highlight of the non-league schedule may be a spring break tournament at Castle Rock in which the Beavers will take on Chimacum and Rochester.
