Lakers defeats Butler County 8-5

Ben Stephens went 3-3 at the plate, sparking Lakers to an 8-5 victory in seven innings over Butler County on Saturday.

He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the third and fifth innings.

Jackson Best got the win in relief for Lakers. Best pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs.

Brennan Coffey and Ben Bertram tallied 12 strikeouts and walked two in completing the no-no.

Coffey pitched lights out for Russell County Lakers Varsity. Coffey held Casey County hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out nine.

Posted Jun 13/12 - Two Lakers Earn All-State Honors

 Post season awards continue to be handed out to two Laker baseball players. Hunter Best and Tyler Robertson have been named as All State selections. Robertson, Jr., earned first team All State. Hunter Best, Sr., was named Honorable Mention All State. The awards were voted on by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association, comprised of coaches from the Commonwealth. Both players will also be playing in the upcoming East-West All Star games on the campus of the University of Louisville. Robertson for the Junior squad and Best will be playing for the Senior team.

 A post season award has been given to Laker Baseball's own, Tyler Robertson.  Robertson has been named the 4th Region Player of the Year as voted on by coaches in the 4th Region. Tyler, SS/P, had a stellar Junior year campaign at the plate and on the mound. He led the Lakers in several categories: Hits (54), Batting Average (.509), On Base Percentage (.606), Doubles (20), and Home Runs (7), RBI's (41). Tyler also scored 46 Runs in the 2012 season, which was good for second on the team.

   The Russell County Laker Baseball won the 2012 16th District Championship in Edmonton, KY. In the semi final match up with Metcalfe County, the Lakers bested the Hornets by the score of 11-0, behind an impressive performance from Junior pitcher Tyler Robertson. The bats for the Lakers were equally impressive, pounding out 10 hits in the 5 inning contest.

On Friday, 4/20, the Laker baseball team will return to Laker Field to face off against the Clay County Tigers. Friday night will also be "Regional Champions Recognition Night" at Laker Field. All former Laker coaches and players from Regional Championship teams (1957,1968,1983,1984,1985,1987,1991,2003, & 2010) will be recognized before the start of the Varsity game.

Pre Season honors keep rolling in for two Laker Baseball players. Coach David Rexroat was recently informed that Hunter Best and Tyler Robertson have been selected to the 2012 Pre Season All State team by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association. The list comprises of 50 of the best baseball players in the state for 2012 as voted on by coaches across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Today (March 27th) is the home opener for the Mighty Laker Baseball team. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 at Laker Field against Campbellsville. The Lakers have a record of 2-1 coming into this tilt with the visiting Eagles. Victories have come against Casey County and Wayne County. The Lakers lone loss was against 4th Region foe, Glasgow.

That time of the year is upon us once again, and we would like to welcome everyone back for the 2012 edition of Laker Baseball!! The boys and staff have been practicing hard for the upcoming season and we have been fortunate to have some good weather and get outside. Today was the first day the whole team was able to practice together, as the our basketball players were able to join the team. Like I said, the boys have really been focused and are eager to get between the lines and play baseball. We look forward to seeing all our parents and supporters at Laker Field this year.

   The Florida trip is quickly approaching. The team is excited to be playing in the Ft Walton Beach Bash for the second year. Last year was a successful trip for the Lakers. Playing against top notch teams from the state of KY and FL, the varsity posted a record of 4-1 and the JV 4-0.

The Mighty Laker baseball faced a tough opponent in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament at Nick Denes Field on the campus of WKU. The Lakers faced off with the 14th District Runner-up, the Bowling Green Purples. The Purples got off to a fast start , plating two runs off starter Tyler Robertson in the top of the first inning. As it turned out, those were the only two runs that would cross the plate for the Purples the rest of the game. Tyler Robertson held Bowling Green without a run the final 6 innings with the help of some solid defense from his Laker teammates.

On March 18th of this year, Sophomore standout Hunter Best became the record holder of hits in a single Season. Hunter doubled in his first at bat against Taylor County for his record breaking 53rd hit of the season. For the day Hunter finished 4 for 4 , grand slam and 5 RBI'S.

 On April 29th of this year Coach David Rexroat earned his 200th victory as the head coach of the Mighty Lakers. The Lakers defeated Clinton Co in thrilling fashion with a 5-4 come from behind victory. The win also locked up the #1 seed for the upcoming district tournament.

The Laker Baseball team has made reservations for their trip to Ft. Walton/Destin area for Spring Break week. We will be staying at the Destin West Beach & Bay Resort Condominiums. Three 2 bedroom units have been reserved at the Bayside section of the resort. At the time the reservation was made there were a few units remaining, although they are not on the same floor as the team. The resort has Gulfside and Bayside condos ranging from 1BR - 3BR'S. The Russell County Baseball team is currently selling baseball season passes for the 2010 season. The cost per ticket is $25. This low price includes admission to all home baseball games for Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshmen, and Middle School. Also, by purchasing the ticket each person will eligible for Grand Slam drawing ($1,000, $300,$200, & $100) and a free meal at your game of choice.
