PFLUGERVILLE, Texas- The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers cruised to a 74-19 victory over Stony Point Tuesday to open District 16-5A play for both teams. Pflugerville crushing defense held the Lady Tigers to 15 points in the first and just four in the second half, as Stony Point saw its eight-game win streak snapped. The Panthers led at intermission, 46-15 before shutting out the Lady Tigers in the third period to extend their lead to 58-15.
The Panthers improve to 9-2 while Stony Point is now 9-5.
Senior post Nneka Enemkpali led the Panthers with game-highs of 13 points and three blocks, while sophomore point guard Taliyah Brooks added 11 points. Senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (six points) pulled down a game-best nine rebounds with Enemkpali grabbing seven rebounds.
Pflugerville held a 44-21 advantage on the boards. The Panthers had 15 steals.
Pflugerville and Stony Point are in the newly-formed District for the next two years. Pflugerville has earned five consecutive District championship titles dating back to 2006.
Pflugerville will next face non-district opponent Corpus Christi King HS on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at a neutral site - Sam Houston HS in San Antonio. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Panther JV, Freshmen pick up wins over Stony Point; both return to action at the Georgetown Tournament which starts Dec. 9
Pflugerville swept Stony Point in all three games Tuesday, with the JV winning 59-9 and the Freshmen Blue (B team) picking up a 40-30 win over Stony Point's freshman A squad.
The JV team, up 35-6 at the half, moves to 13-1 and was led by 14 points from junior post Erin Coffey. The freshmen Blue team was led by Sam Olivares' 12 points and a 10-point, six-steal effort by Stephanie Onyeje.
The JV and freshmen teams return to action at the Georgetown Tournament held Thursday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 11, in Georgetown.
