Portland rockets 3 shady nook jackers 1  july 6, 2011

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland.  For when the one great scorer comes to mark against your name, he asks not if you won or lost, but did you beat ft. wayne.   Rocket revenge so sweet, Portland defeats ft. wayne shady nook jackers 3-1 wed nite at runkle-miller field.  It was crossroads credit union nite and the crowd was the largest of the season.  Those folks made it an event,,,,most festive games, prizes, food and  the rockets win again to cap it off. 

The jackers, fresh off their weekend championship over Portland at their place ( they beat us 3-2 sat, and 8-1 sun) brought their club to Portland and it was a a different story.  Devin wilburn was dominate thru 8 inn, striking out 8 scattering 5 hits. The jackers touched wilburn for one run in the 8^th on a simple throwing error from the mound to first. Wilburn had been sidelined with a serious bout of poison ivy, but he sure looked like the mound doctor out there.  he was picked by sportswriter steve grabacz as player of the game. Tyler Holloway pitched the 9^th , coaxed a game ending double play to finish it off.

The rockets scored all 3 runs in the 3^rd –a walk to brad kindred, a single by brady roundtree, then after a nifty double steal, ben smith delivered a 2 out 2 run single to put the boys on the board. Nate clem followed with another rbi single to close out the scoring.  All 3 runs off former major league pitcher keith shepeard 44 yrs. Old.  I have his card while playing for the Colorado rockies. 

Rockets out hit the jackers 10-5 and turned 3 double plays.  2 hits each by roundtree, smith, clem, and Thomas mccowan. 

The rocket lunching pad was a buzzin with activity, mayor hosier on hand, rocky Williams took his turn at flippin burgers,and  I always get a kick out of seeing tyler newell--- and it was quite a community event----all in an amazing 2 hours 2 min.tin caps game yesterday 2hr 42 min.

Special well wishes to Maggie runkle who is on the mend after her fall this week at jc hospital. Happy

Rocket record now 20-9 .  home dh sat and sun---as the new fence gets put in----thanks to our parks dept as they continually help us make improvement on our field of dreams.

Dh sat starts at 4 pm vs. the Indiana breakers----they are from the region, calumet area and are the current leaders of the west division of the heartland league. Sun dh starts at 1pm  vs. the ft. wayne red sox

Lawn chair, cooler, sun gear, make it your event sat game time 4pm

This rocket team is good and will be heard from come tournament time,
