June 19,2012 portland over ft Wayne 22-14

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland. For when the one great scorer comes to mark against your name, he asks not if you one or lost, but did you beat ft. wayne? Portland rockets defeat ft. wayne jackers 22-14. it wasn’t easy, but it could have been. Rockets jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and the slugfest was on. 

Billy wellman hit a home run into the woods in left field to start the fireworks.  Wellman scored 5 times in the contest.  Rockets still led 6-2 in the 4^th but the former shady nook club came back.  Score tied 6-6  more fireworks in the 4^th, mitch waters hit a woods shot over the fence, a 3 run blast .  the timely blow almost turned the slugfest into an old fashioned donneybrook,  after much mouthing,  started by our team I might add, both benches were warned, order restored.   The quality of play was suspect. 18-8 and game near end, jackers came back again scoring 6 runs-5 unearned off Michael caley who was in relief of dan bollenbacher –3 innings .  rockets held on to win 22-14 in 3 hours 8 min.

Sports writer ray cooney, who stayed the duration, was wondering where the extra hour came in and we endured but it wasn’t pretty. 

Tyler Reynolds and travis gray closed up the mound duties.  Offensively, grant hendershot, Pendleton had 4 hits, as he auditioned before his college coach kyle gould from taylor university.  Coach gould was complimentary of rockets baseball and was needling the 3 rd base coach about his effect coaching, slopping baserunning resulting in

Runners picked off 2^nd and 3^rd.  Portland also had 3 hits by way wellman, 3 hits by adam

Wilson, 2 by Thomas mccowan,  and 4 rbi by Dalton tinsely. 

The jackers had 3 shepards from Wabash pitch, the last one 43 yr. Former major leaguer keith Shepard. I have his baseball card with the Colorado rockies

Good crowd on hand enjoyed the breezy nite- maloys, david and Jacob lykins on hand took batting practice with the team, larrimee van skyock getting ready for his 12 yr anniversary was at the park.  Special visit from max and sherri ludy---they showed me a picture of josh ludy, #22 in a philly official mlb uniform.  And also he getting engaged.

Rocket record now moves to 10-4 and we are undefeated in Indiana.  Now as summer approaches so does the biggest of challenges.  Tonite the ohio warhawks come to Portland 630 start

The Dayton club has players from all over the country.  they lost 2 games last year as they won their 4^th straight national title last year.  One of their loses was to Portland. In fact, we have beaten them 3 years in a row.

Billy ballgame, billy geeslin will be on the mound.
