Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland.  The ohio warhawks

Came to Portland tues nite on a mission.  Avenging a 7-1 loss to Portland june 19,

The warwawks tomahawked the rockets 12-1. that put a screeching halt to the

Rocket 6 game winning streak. 

The ballpark was all abuzzin, biggest crowd ever according to orie poole, it was cross

Roads nite.  No room in the parking lot.  Truly a fine community event, on truly one of the most pleasant summer evenings I can ever recall,  our friends

At crossroads made it a happening.  They all chipped in with games, prizes and smiles galore.  I do believe the highlight of the evening was the money machine.  Turn it on and try to grab as many dollars as you can in 30 seconds. 

Our rockets had trouble grabbing hold of anything.  By the 3^rd inn, the warhawks pushed to an 8-0 lead.  Several misplays contributed to the undoing of 5 different rocket pitchers.

Casey stengel the new york yankee manager when asked about the execution of his team,

Travis gray made it thru 2 inn. But walked 4 and gave up 5 hits, 7 runs.

The rockets had 3 hits, eli jones scored on Justin marreros single in the 6^th.  Offense had but 5 baserunners,  an exercise in futility .  they had power pitching that can make any team look lethargic. 

The game was originally to be played vs league foe van wert twisters, however, they have

Serious issues ---a loser mentality—when the tough gets going---they cower and hide.

True, they have never beaten Portland. They folded claiming it wasn’t worth the trip to honor their scheduled commitment. A late call to Dayton and the warhawks saved the game.  A big thank you to manager ron slusher and his club.  They are not really ohio.

They come from all over the country to play/  they have won the national 19 year old division world series 4 yrs in a row.  The warhawks record 12 and 1

Portland record 18-7.

Here is an opinion:  our boys, riding high on 6 game winning streak, expecting van wert losers to be in town,,really didn’t have the mindset needed to step up their game againt a solid fast powerful club like the hawks. Like a trap, and like several games I was a part of in adams central football,  they get a few big plays and get on a roll that crescendos.

But what a nite, crossroads nite.  David lyons and jim haines, mr. Robert freemyer handed me a generous donation and shared his good fortunes playing bridge with glen Bryant. Fred baily also made a donation.Particularly grand was seeing all former rockets in the house, my teammates.. really all of Portland went to bat on crossroads nite. Jeffery o, steve grabacz and of course the maloys

Softball team.

Now the great thing about baseball,  put me in coach im ready to play,,,,,it’s a new day today and we play again.  Portland travels to Wittenberg university stadium, our opponent----those same speedy ohio warhawks----we have won one, they have too, this is the rubber match.. you are only as good as your starting pitcher, and we have a good one going,   billy geeslin who beat them last time is the starter.

One question remains, how many of those runkle burgers did Charlie tague eat????
