FIRST PERIOD
Riels knew coming into today’s game, the big and strong Twisters team would not be an easy game to
continue the winning streak. The defending “MMJHL Champions” played a hard fought game throughout.
It was tight checking, fast pace and a very physical game! The Twisters outshot the Riels in the 1st
11 – 6. It ended scoreless after one period. Grenier and Bell exchanged great saves during
this period!
SECOND PERIOD
In the second period, the Twisters drew first blood at 7:46 on the power play scored by Matt Mazinke
assists going to Alex Tetrault and Christian Savard. The Riels kept on putting pressure to get the
equalizer but Grenier closed the door to keep his team up 1 – 0.
Then at 13:48, Corby Mozinke scored from Mitch Chanel and Connor Sisson to take a 2 – 0 strangle hold
on the riels. The Twisters outshot the Riels in the second frame by 10 -5.
THIRD PERIOD
The Riels would come out strong early in the third putting a lot of pucks to the net and cycling down low,
but Grenier again came up big!
The Riels had their work cut out for them when they received three minor consecutive penalties. One
being 5 on 3 for a minute and a half. The PK units did their part to keep it at 2 – 0 with less than five
minutes to play! Goal tender, Connor Bell stayed cool and composed in the pipes throughout!
The Riels didn’t quit! The hard work paid off when the Twisters took a late minor penalty. At 16:14 of
the third period, Michael Gorrie finished off a three way passing play from Charette and Michaels and
scored! That gave the Riels energetic life!
With eighteen seconds later at 16:32, the Riels cycled down low in the Twister territory with Brian Dies
making a pass to defenseman Matt Morency. Matt made a low hard drive shot from the point to Brett
Charette who tipped it in to tie the game 2 – 2!!!
The Twisters didn’t know what kind of storm just came through their zone!! The Riels kept winning the
battles forcing the puck to the net, when lightning struck at 19:26 with a similar play from the previous
goal.
The hard work by Trudeau, Dies and Charette paid off. Trudeau worked from the corner, passed
it deep to Dies off the boards to Morency with another low blast from the point through the maze of
players in front, only to find Charette again who re-directed it into the top shelf under the bar beating
Grenier. What a comeback! The winning 7th
streak continues! Wow! Keep it Riel!!!
