FIRST PERIOD
The Riels fell behind 3 – 0 to the Canucks until 42 seconds left in the first period when Michael Gorrie
blasted one past net minder Erik Swar on the power play from Glen Young and Brian Michaels.
The Riels played hard for the first 10 minutes dominating playing deep in Canuck territory, but could not
put anything past Erik Swar.
The Riels were outshot 14 -13 after the first and down 3 – 1.
SECOND PERIOD
Riels came out skating early winning battles all over the ice. Then at 3:12 of the period, Sean Christensen
sniped a shot under the bar to cut the lead 3 -2 on the power play. Then Riels Artur Raevskiy stole
the puck short handed and lifted a shot high glove side on Swar and netted it at 3 -3. Russell Trudeau
finished off a great play by Travis Ziprick winning the battle in the neutral zone coming down inside
Canucks zone to the hash and making a beautiful pass to Trudeau coming in late, firing one low past Swar
to take the lead 4 -3. After 2 periods, the Riels outshot the Canucks 14 -10.
THIRD PERIOD
The third period was a nightmare for goaltenders. First Canucks tied the game at 4 -4 on Jordan Millers
goal at 6:33 on the power play from Scott Gallaher. Then 22 seconds later, Austin Hill scored from Kuzak
and Stire, which made it 5 -4 Canucks.
That deflated the Riels for about 30 seconds when Gorrie sparked the Riels again tying it at 5 – 5 with
assists coming from line mates, Young and Michaels.
Before you could say Boo, Jack Josephson scored for the Canucks from Papaloannaou and Mikkelson-
Cabot 6 -5 Canucks. It was captain Gorrie again igniting the comeback for the Riels with a blast from Glen
Young at 13:43 making the score tied again at 6 – 6.
Then at 14:39 on the power play, Shawn Dyck scored for the Canucks on the power play from Jordan
Miller and Cam Fehr 7 – 6 Canucks. It did not look good for the Riels as the Canuck fans were gleaming
with triumph thinking that they stopped the Riels winning streak at 8.
With less than 30 seconds left, the Riels went with six attackers deep in Canucks territory. The Riels were
buzzing around Goalie Swar when Gorrie picked the puck up from the corner and fed a perfect pass to
Russell Trudeau at 19:58 to tie the game at 7 – 7. Wow…The streak is still alive.
The Riels and their fans went bonkers.
After a short break in overtime, Brett Charette flipped a puck past Swar at 1:07 of OT and assists went to
Brian Dies and Ryan Wilgosh to keep the streak alive at 9 straight wins.
Beating everyone in the league for the first round. The Riels out shot the Canucks 22 -12 in the third and
