Posted Jan 10/14 - Charette Snipes in OT

FIRST PERIOD

Riels came out of the gate just flying, scoring three straight goals.  First at the 2:38 mark, Brian Dies scored his 20th goal of the season with helpers coming from Trudeau and Charette.

Then at 9:01, Skyler Eastman potted his 5th of the season on a breakaway on a nice move beating Jets net minder Dakota Johnson to take a 2-0 lead with assists coming from Mark Sharman and Travis Ziprick.

Riels then made it 3-0 on a nice three way passing play when Brian Michiels scored his 19th of the season with assists going to Gorrie and Young.

Then the Jets got one back 8 seconds later when Tyson Furgala scored on a high shot beating Riels net minder Ryan Brown.  Branden Meler got the assist.  That ended the scoring in the first.  Riels outshot the Jets 14-12.

SECOND PERIOD

Riels started off quick in the second again at the 2:48 mark when Stanislav Izvekov sniped a shot past Jets goalie Dakota Johnson to make it 4-1 Riels.  The Jets were working hard, skating, finishing checks and before you know it, the game turned around first at 4:24 of the second when Rowan Versavel scored his 10th of the season with assists coming from Colton Plante and Mackenzie Johnson.  That seemed to spark the Jets now trailing only 4-2.  Then at the 6:20 mark, the Jets pressing in the Riels zone, Jeremy Brooks scored from Meler and Furgala.  Now we have a game 4-3 Riels.  Then Riels got their second goal lead back at 12:36 when Jens Giesbrecht scored his 4th of the season with helpers coming from Chris Prejet and Stanislav Izvekov.  Again the Jets not quitting when forward Eric Wallace scored his 17th of the season beating Riels net minder Ryan Brown.  The score now being 5-4 Riels after the second period.  Both coaches ended up pulling their starting goalies with about 5 minutes left in the second.

THIRD PERIOD

The Jets believed that they could knock off the top team in the league today.  Jets tied the game at 5-5 at the 4:53 mark when Cater Comeau scored beating Kyle Vandemosselaer with an assist going to Colton Plante.

Then at 10:27, Mackenzie Johnson finished off the comeback for the Jets scoring his 16th of the season with an assist going to Carter Comeau.  New net minder Luke Sirant stood tall in the third period stopping everything coming his way.  The Riels on the ice late with 6 attackers all over the Jets deep in the zone, throwing everything at the net when Captain Michael Gorrie found the mesh on a sprawling Jets net minder Sirant, tying the game for the Riels at 6-6 with just 10 seconds left.  Wow.

OVERTIME

In overtime, it took less than a minute when league leading point getter Brett Charette came across the Jets blue line, having all the patience drawing the defence to the far left and blasting a perfect shot in the top shelf beating Sirant to win it for the Riels 7-6 in OT.  What a game!

THREE STARS

First star went to Brett Charette, second star to Stanislav Izvekov and third star to Jens Giesbrecht.
