Riels 5 vs Railer Express 2   Saturday, January 11, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

Riels forward Russell Trudeau opened the scoring at 11:38 with helpers coming from Sean Christensen and Ryan Wilgosh.  The Railers Express tied it up at 14:54 when Isaac Bellan scored on the power play from Greg Myall and Ryan Leaf.  That ended the period at 1-1.  Riels out shot the Express 16-11.

SECOND PERIOD

One lone goal in the period went to the Riels on the power play at 10:27 when league leading point getter Brett Charette finished off a beautiful play from Michael Gorrie and Brian Dies.

Riels dominated play through the second frame out shooting the Express 17-3.  But only one goal to show for it.  Express net minder Jerret Smith was stellar.  The second period ended 2-1 Riels.

THIRD PERIOD

Newly acquired Mike Riffel scored his 5th of the season at 7:27 when Brian Dies did some unreal magic deep in Transcona zone when he found Riffel open to get the game winner against his old team.  An assist also went to Brett Charette.

Then the Riels put the game away at 12:41 when Brian Dies sniped a shot past net minder Smith beating him high in the slot.  That made it 4-1 Riels unassisted.

At 16:57 Justin Pokrant of the Express scored his 3rd of the season with assists coming from Stephane Catellier and Reed Van Alstyne.  Then just 33 seconds later, Riels captain Michael Gorrie scored his 23rd of the season from Jens Giesbrecht and Mike Riffel.

The game ended 5-2 Riels.  Riels outshot Transcona 15-8 in the 3rd overall 48-22.
