Riels 2 vs Hawks 3 Fri. Feb.21, 2014
FIRST PERIOD
Riels came out storming totally dominated the play, but somehow were outshot 9-6.
Riels forward Mark Sharman scored his 4th goal of the season at 6:44 from Sean Christensen and Jens Giesbrecht. Riels defensive game went to sleep late in the last minute of play when Jesse Toth scored his 29th of the season from Justin Rabb and Tyler Smith at 19:16. Then 32 seconds later Ryan McDonald notched his 10th of the season with an assist going to Cory Yeroschak at 19:48. That’s how it ended after the first.
SECOND PERIOD
Riels all-star forward Russell Trudeau scored his 34th of the season with an assist going to Chris Prejet at 7:45 to tie the game at 2-2. The second period was very close checking. The Riels out shot the Hawks 11-10. Riels net minder, Ryan Brown stopped the Hawks in the second.
THIRD PERIOD
Third period was the same as the second, both goaltenders holding their own. A late penalty call with just over two minutes to go put the Hawks on a power play. They capitalized when Alex Hollyoake scored with assists going to Ryan McDonald and Cory Yeroschak at 18:47. Hawks win 3 -2 and out shot the Riels in the third
11-9 overall shots 30-26.
The Riels next game is Sunday afternoon at 2pm at Southdale vs the Pembina Valley Twisters. Come see the action and the Riels clinch first place
