Posted Mar 11/14 - Riels Top Twins

Riels 4 vs Twins 3  Fri. Mar. 7, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

The Riels came out skating in the first period.  Riels exciting forward Brian Dies opened the scoring at 15:01 lifting the puck past Twins net minder Connor Bell with an assist going to Ryan Wilgosh.  That was the only goal in the first period.  Shots on goal were even 10-10.

SECOND PERIOD

Twins top scorer, Nick Doyle scored on a tip in at 1:14 on the power play with assists coming from Jeremy Yocom and Dillon Acheson.  Riels came down quickly 23 seconds later when Artur Raevskiy scored at 1:37 with help from Jens Giesbrecht and Chris Prejet.  Riels lead was 2-1.  Nick Doyle did it again, almost the same type of goal, another tip in beating Riels net minder Kyle Vandemosselaer.  The Twins would not go away – now tied at 2-2.  That’s how the second period would end.  The Twins outshot the Riels 13-6.  The Riels had only 6 shots in the second, the worst period of hockey the fans seen all year. The Riels had a 5 on 3 power play and didn’t even get a shot on goal.  I am sure the coaching staff had a few things to say about the period.

THIRD PERIOD

There was a little more spark in the third period from the Riels.  At 5:31 Kaleb Ross for the Twins with an assist from Jeremy Yocom.  Twins were hanging on, the Riels were pressing.  Riels forward Stanislav Izvekov scored a beautiful goal to tie it at 3-3 when he blasted a puck past Twins goalie Connor Bell beating him top cheddar at 13:54.  It looks like we are going to see some OT.  With just four seconds left on the clock, Riels top scorer came through again, finding the mesh on the power play with assists going to Chris Prejet and Brian Dies.  A good team always finds a way to win.   Congratulations Riels.  Riels out shot the Twins in the third 20-11 and 26-34 overall.  Riels net minder Kyle Vandemosselaer stopped 31 shots for the victory.
