Riels 3 vs Twins 1 Tues. Mar. 11, 2014
FIRST PERIOD
Riels played a strong defensive game on the road. It wasn’t an exciting offensive display but the boys got it done. A four game sweep.
Kaleb Ross opened the scoring for the Twins at 4:11 with the assists going to Jeremy Yacom. Then at 9:24 captain Michael Gorrie slammed his first of the playoffs with an assist going to Sean Christensen. Late in the first, Sean Christensen potted his second of the playoffs with help coming from Chris Prejet and Jens Giesbrecht. That ended the first period with Riels up 2-1. Riels and Twins were even on shots 15-15. Solid goal tending by Kyle Vandemosselaer and Michael Newman.
SECOND PERIOD
Only one goal scored in the second frame and it was on the power play by the Riels at 10:44. Veteran forward Glen Young scored to make it 3-1 Riels with assists going to Sean Christensen and Michael Gorrie. Riels were 1 for 3 on the power play. Riels out shot the Twins 13-9 in the second.
THIRD PERIOD
The Twins came out skating in the third, as it was do or die for them. It was strong penalty kill by the Riels and solid net minding by Kyle Vandemosselaer to shut the door on the Twins.
Twins were 0-5 on the power play. Twins outshot the Riels in the 3rd 11-9. Riels out shot the Twins overall 37-35.
Riels move on now to the semi finals against the Hawks. The Hawks won their series 4 games to 2 against the Knights. In the other semi-finals, it will be the Raiders against the defending champs Pembina Valley Twisters. Both semi-final series starts Friday, March 21st.
Riels first game against the Hawks is Friday, March 21st at Southdale at 7:30pm.
