June 30, 2014 Rockets sweep south bend series

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland. Happy last day of june.

How sweet the sweep. Rockets sweep south bend going 4-0 on the weekend.

Rockets defeat the Mishawaka brewers 9-1 and 5-3 Saturday, then double dip

The south bend cardinals 3-1 and 14- 0. both were played at kennedy park.

Saturday’s game one was a doozy, score 0-0 into the last inning, the rockets

Scored 9 times and broke the game open to  win 9-1.  the pitching duel featured mitch

Waters who had a 1 hitter going into the last inning. Waters struck out 8.   Their guy was pretty tough customerAs well, sean galihier , 37 year old, played against the rockets for many years, a member of ron milovichs tough south bend senator clubs.  Coach milovich was on hand and some old friends and foes had some warm memories.   Geoff bowers had 4 rbi in the rocket rally, in one inning.

Game 2 rockets win 5-3, 5 solid pitched innings from craig martin of marion and 2 by Justin miller.  Rockets take the doubleheader.

Sat. nite road trip and a team gathering at applebys  now it’s the south bend cardinals

Sunday another big pitchers dues, rockets win 3-1.  our guy dan bollenbacher the winner goes 6 innings striking out 10, 3 hits 101 pitches.

Travis gray picked up the save.  Their guy gave up just one hit.  46 year old jayson best

Knows how to play the game. The former pro in the twins organization,  We beat him, but we tip our hat.  Jayson ----I played against him, told me this is his 4^th different team

He has played for against Portland. They are the Lafayette red sox, the Goshen diamondbacks, the senators and the Cardinals. Torn rotator cuff but jayson best can pitch.

Dalton tinsley led off the game with a double off the wall, and scored on a passed ball.

That was our only hit. But we did piece together 2 more runs to give bollenbacher the win.

Game 2 and tyler Reynolds was dealing, we win in 5 inn. 14-0 , Reynolds striking out 6

 With a 4 hit shutout.

The rocket road trip a resounding success, we had 17 players on hand representing Portland; just hanging out at the hotel listening to coach doug tinsley talking about the intricacies of the game, passion, and how we can learn from those old pitchers like galiher and best,,,his message:  hard work beats talent that doesn’t work hard

Rocket attach this weekend led by geoff bowers 6 hits 5rbi, 5 hits Dalton tinsley w 5 runs scored.

4 hits each by waters, logan barnes, and logan hug.  And here is an odditiy, 1^st year rocket man colin affolder, who will attend bethel in south bend area was HBP 4 times.

Colin will play for coach zeth zartman a former rocket.

Rocket train now rolling with 5 straight wins, now 12-7.

Next game is wed vs. the ohio warhawks, but we received word that the game may be postponed as they are leaving for salt lake city the next day for tournament. \

Wed game is questionable

Rockets will play in the 4^th of july tournament in ft. wayne. Friday.

The 5 team field is south bend cardinals, the ft wayne jackers, expos, hobbs allstars a keith shepard team, and Portland

Rockets play at noon fri vs south bend at Carrington field.
