July 13, 2015 portland rockets take 2 of 3 in Dayton vs wolverines

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland.  And if it rains, I surely will hear it from bernerd reitz, he gives me the dickens when I say it’s a beautiful day.

The rockets were in action over the weekend, after 16 days off  the boys of summer played in Dayton Friday and Saturday. The rockets won 2 out of 3 of those games. Then rained out Sunday in ft. wayne. 

Portland in Dayton, just like in the old days at howell field, when we played hh morgan.

Back in the 80’s.  howell field down in a hole, was the site of the first ever NFL game,

The Dayton triangles vs the Columbus Panhandles, seated 5000 in 1920.  the field has been part of a Cincinnati reds renovation project with many improvements. 

Portland rockets were there fri and lost a toughie, 3-0 to the Miami valley wolverines,

Mitch waters scattered 6 hits thru 8 inn  86 pitches, gave up 1 earned run but the rockets were denied any runs, left 13 men on base, including loaded bases in the first 2 inn.

Even in the last inning men on 2^nd and 3^rd, a long ball by jagen millspaugh almost tied the game in the 9^th but it went foul. 

Rocket train on track Saturday, get off the bus gus, Dalton tinsley and Brandon reaman, our 1^st 2 hitters, and our top 2 hitters on the weekend, get em on, get em over and get em in.

That’s how we mananged a 6-2 and 7-1 dh sweep over those wolverines on sat.  with those 2 on our offense creates havoc for the opposition.  Alex delk then doubles to the track and the train was rolling.  Reaman had 7 hits in the 3 games, tinsley had 6,. They were teammates this spring at Shawnee state and we love em in portland.  Rockets manages 32 hits over the weekend. Justin Marrero had a couple of doubles and saved us a couple times with defensive gems at 3^rd and short, tj lindstrand had 4 hits, colin Affolder had 3 hits, billy geeslin some clutch base hits, delk 3 rbi,  rockets rolled;

We like success stories, tyler Reynolds and jimmy west were stellar on the mound.  Tyler goes 6 inn, 92 pitches and is in command. 10 hits 1 walk and 6 Ks,  billy geeslin pitched the last inn. Then game 2 rockets made a winner of jimmy west, he goes 5 inn allows just 1 run and 5 hits, jimmy and Brandon reaman are from Dayton, playing in Dayton but playing for the Portland rockets, they were recruited by teammate Dalton tinsley and his dad coach doug tinsley, and we are glad they are rockets.  They drive just an hour and a half to Portland for a game.  Wow

Andy welches used to do that for Portland before he went to the independent leagues.

Rockets outscored the Dayton club 13-6 but one of the key plays in the game, with a 2-1 lead in the 4^th, Dayton lead off runner tried to steal second.  Catcher tj lindstrand, who caught all weekend,  lucas Hendee did spell him in the first game, tj nailed that runner trying to steal second and wiped the bases clean, I guess he had larceny in his heart, but his feet were honest. 

One of the highlights of my weekend was seeing so many rocket fans in Dayton.;  meeting jimmy west parents for the first time after probably his most successful mound event ever, and telling them what a prize he is for Portland, and watching them beam over their star pitcher, priceless.\

I was a bit touched I must say.

Must share a happy birthday cheer to our old captain heath Williams from Portland. All American and voted into semi-pro baseball hall of fame, 8 years as an elite rocket.
